  • Not impressed!

Alright well I picked up my gtst from a body shop today after they installed a new bumper and headlights from an icbc claim. Super stoked on how it turned out, but, as I was driving home about 20 seconds after i pulled out of the shops parking lot my car suddenly decides to die on me in one of the busiest intersections in Burnaby. The tach was jumping from 1,000 to 4,000 and then the car would stall. It started up fine but as soon as you touch the gas it would die. SO here I am stuck at a green light holding up traffic..I jump out of the car and pop the hood and notice that the J pipe is COMPLETELY disconnected from inter cooler piping. I tightened up the coupler with my trusty house key and was on my way. I know for a fact that it was the shops fault because I always make sure the pipe clamps are tight, this one was loose as a goose! The shop will remain anonymous because I'm happy with the bodywork, but god damn learn how to treat a skyline. haha just thought I would share the story.

doesn't matter, mine wasn't bolted down all summer, and it never caused my coupler to pop off lol.

I know the bolts are missing on that pipe but all they do is connect to the recirculation tube or whatever its called, and im running atmospheric bov so it doesnt really matter

Mine wasn't bolted either. Probably not a good idea but never had a problem because of it.

It might not be the shop's fault. the extra vibration from not bolting that pipe down will cause the clamps to loosen up.

It happen to me couple of times before while driving.

i dont know why the shop would need to disconnect the clamp if its only a bumper and headlight work!

so you're blaming the shop for your crappy old ring clamp from coming loose on an unbolted j pipe?

yeah actually i am...those bolts have never been on there since i've owned the car and they had to take off the intercooler + piping so they could paint the inner fender.

Mine used to pop off under heavy boost. Replace the clamp
My rear view mirror fell off this summer. All 3 screws unthreaded completely due to vibrations

At least it was minor, it could have been much worse. Mistakes happen, honestly I don't have one original clamp/hose in my engine bay. After 20 years it has it wear and tear.

Glad you and your car is ok, if they did good paint/body work leave it at that.
Traction is optional, so are zipties

Yeah I'm not really mad about it, but it just sucks when your car starts f*cking around in the middle of traffic
