  • I can see the eye rolling already ,,, air-suspension vs reg coilovers.. ????

was ondering about getting an air suspension for my r33 gtr,,,
do they perform as well as coilovers (or close enough)..

..my problem is that I scrape when I drive into my underground..

. I doubt I will ever do any serious tracking of the car, so I am considering getting an air suspension system..

Won't handle anywhere near as well. Ever wonder why race cars don't use it? It would certainly would be different to see a skyline on bags. Why not just raise your car up an inch? If you've got coilovers there's a good chance they're height adjustable.

car is more of a fancy commuter that guzzles gas...

I'm thinking I need more so ... the conveneince of ride height on demand without scraping when I board on a ferry or go into my parking lot.....

...yes I already have tein coilovers... but it's a hassle getting out with the wrench and raising each coilover everytime I want to park

Eff the haters, do it, if it meets the needs of your lifestyle and makes you happy than why not do it. You could also have it slammed when sitting at car meets or shows too!

Well I guess air bags will be a good solution if you're just going to hardpark, but that defeats the whole purpose of owning a sports car imo.

As we discussed, it wouldn't be good for pushing the car but good for what you are going to use the car for (as per original post).

Look into getting a cup kit. They fix onto your existing coilovers and give you height adjustment at the push of a button. Top Secret has them, and they're made be Aragosta if I recall.

I have the same problem as OP, the slope for my underground ramp is too steep and my STOCK ride height s14 with a usdm kouki front and a lip has a tough time getting in and out. stock ride height vs. getting coils and parking it in the open for thieves *sad face*

Aragosta Roberuta cup kit $5000+ I doubt much poeple would be able to afford it here. Let alone the coilover cost on top of that.

These guys are in Seattle and make a kinda affordable cup kit for the NSX but will work with your Teins.

Hmmm....you've been reading the wrong threads/articles. A proper bag over shock setup will be just as good if not better than a coil-over for suspension control. Plus they weigh about half as much. An airbag is a progressive spring, it can't help it. The more you compress it the harder it pushes back, but at a variable rate. Something a coil can't do. At rest, the bag could be at, say 125lb/inch but can go up to 250lb/inch with only a small bit of compression if you choose the right bag style. You can have a very soft ride just cruising and total control driving in anger, the best of both worlds. The shocks are almost always fully aluminum and have at least 3 to 5 adjustments for jounce and rebound.

The guys that just want to slam and bounce their vehicles use a completely different type of air bag.

I wonder if they would just sell you the bags to put over your existing coilovers. All they did was put bags on their coilovers. I'm sure with some searching you could find out where they got the bags from and piece together your own setup for far less than what they want. KMS TOOLS has a crap load of air bag stuff to put a system together for dirt cheap. With some luck you could be all in for half or less than the Ksport setup.
