  • How long do you wait until you take action from bad forum purchases?

Well I purchased a shell of a well known seller here off GTRC. That was in the start of January 2012. The car was shipped to me with the supposed registration in the car.

Well turns out no registration was in the car.

I've been in contact for the last 3 months about trying to get a copy of it and still nothing as he is apparently waiting for someone else to get it printed.

ICBC will not help me with the registration at all. So my rolling shell is essentially useless with out the bill of sale and registration that was supposed to be shipped with the car.

How long do most of you guys wait before solving the problem by other means? Has anyone had any success with legal actions?

I work at a brokerage and its quite a process and can take up to 3 months. He has to send a written letter to what we call "last resorts" and they will in turn send him some paper work which needs to be notarized and sent back.

If any of this sounds framiliar from what hes told you then hes likely in the process

Well what happend is the guy I purchased the car off of purchased the car off a friend and never put it in his name. So he has to get his friend to go print the reg that he lost. But since money has changed hands his friend isn't in a rush to do anything since he's been paid same with the guy I purchased the car off of.

Does anyone know how I can register this with ICBC? When I talked briefly with an ICBC agent they were saying for sure nothing because I have no bill of sale.

But ya seller has been saying its easy to reprint the reg once he can get the old owner before him to do it. What makes me worried is to me this may take 2 hours to do and its been closer to 3 months.

Should of got all the paper work before handing over cash :/

If he said the paper work would be delivered with the car and now hes saying he doesnt have it, id be hitting up legal action within a week if i didnt recieve it, obviously hes liein to much.

...hope that there is no outstanding lien and some bank actually owns it. Did you get or check the VIN prior to purchase?

Registration re-print is $18, sounds to me the guy doesn't care to spend the money since its " no longer his problem ". Without the bill of sale it may not even be possible to prove ownership. I just hope this ' well known ' member can respect the situation and put himself in your shoes.

I'll take a look into it tomorrow when the boss is in and see what he suggests doing.

basically the guy pulled a fast one on you. in the end your ****** and I bet there's a lien on the vehicle that hasn't been paid off or it the shell was stolen (hence a shell without paperwork).

you could publicly out him, but does it matter? delete, new email, new screen name, ca-chow,

Well I didn't check any VIN's because its not like a bought a car I bought a 3000$ Shell. But if its not insurable its worth about $1000.

I can prove ownership as I have about 100 emails (seriously) back and forth as well as a Bank transfer with all the details on the transfer for the purchase of the car.

I wont let the name out until the end of the week as I'm giving them that long to fix it. I like to be patient with fellow GTRC'ers but this is getting out of hand...

Thanks for the input guys! Any luck mvs2 as what is a good way to go about this if I never get the reg?

there's a VIN attached the frame is there not? Doesn't matter if there isn't an engine in or if it's completely stripped.

                            What you could do

contact the person who you bought it from
contact the person who they bought it from
make sure you have legit addresses and phone numbers
                            get the real story
go see a justice of the peace and make a statement and get it signed by him/her
take said paper to your Lic office and should be good to go
(in ontario you can do this)

However if there's a bank lien on the vehicle it pretty much needs to get paid off or the bank will come collect whatever is left.
If the vehicle comes back stolen, kiss it goodby,
any other issue... ie. insurance write off, etc, track only and never on the road with a heap of $$ and even then doubtful.

either that or REVIN it (illegal)

I bet $50 there's no paper work and there's an issue with your car without an ownership. Ship a car without paper work and 3 months later he's still dragging his feet. equals scammed ham

IMO Take it to court, contact the RCMP, show up at his door/work with a baseball bat.

you got ****** hard in the arse with no lube.
