  • Electrical problem...?

    I installed 4 new speakers, a new head-unit, and a 12" sub

    **Never had issues before this**

Basically what's happening is, the deck will randomly turn off and on (always both, never just 1)
I found it happened more frequently if I turned on my headlights (or highbeams)
Also, I was on the highway, tapped my breaks and seen my headlights dim. (for a split second then went back)

Is this an alternator issue, or a battery issue? (maybe a bad stereo ground?)

The battery that is currently in there is a VERY SMALL JDM battery the car came with from the dealer.

(never had issues with the battery before)

    Appreciate your help GTRC!

may be try to use own ground for your stereo, then try to get power from different place.... thats so funny what it does!

i also have an issue with my stereo and i think oem clock too. there is no memory, so each time i start the car stereo torns on like brand new , all my previos settings gone what it may be?

Get a battery rated for north America. I run an 850cca in mine. Bad grounds will draw more amperage causing lights to dim or flicker.

What should I be looking for if I go to get a new battery?

I can gaurantee if I go to the local car parts store and ask for a 12v car battery for a skyline. They'll have no clue what that is (the car, not the battery)

Also I have this issue with my deck reseting, but I think its not a fuse issue.

I also have used my own ground. I grounded it to the metal stereo casing, maybe I should change it to a different area?

After looking into it. My turbo timer displays my voltage and it stays around 13.2-14.1 volts (that's running voltage)

I forgot what my battery is staying at without the car running. I'll check that later (i think its around 12v, which it should be)

          Thanks for the replies.

I used to have an Optima Red Top, 880cca. Top post style. I picked it up at Walmart. Just go to the automotive section and they should have a display with all the different batteries they carry, just show them what you want and you're good to go.

The 14 volts you're seeing is the alternator voltage. Your battery should be at least 12.2 volts on its own. Any lower and it's a weak battery.

yeah, try to find another ground right on the body itself.

and btw, i just put a regular size battery, my mechanic gave it to me.
took me about 30 mins to switch those terminals to regular size.

              good luck man!

Battery size will not fix your problem unless your running excessive load on your battery!

Before replacing battery change battery ground, & check KOEO voltage to stereo contstant & stereo ignition. Then if problem continues do a draw test on alternator & check resistance @ stereo contstant & stereo ignition.
