  • Why is there dirt in my brake fluid reservoir?

I had my brake fluid flushed + changed a few weeks ago and realized afterward that there are literally chunks of dirt/dust looking things at the bottom of the brake fluid reservoir. It's my first time i change the brake fluid after i got the car.

So my question is, is it likely that someone dropped some dirt into the reservoir while they change the brake fluid. In that case, can i just use a spoon or chopstick to pick them out? Could there be any damage to master cylinder and such?

Or...could this mean my calibres are in need of a rebuild (bad seals gone into the line and slowly sink into the reservoir maybe). i am not very familiar with the brake system, so I am not sure if the latter case is even possible.

Maybe pull a few chunks out if you can and verify it is dirt or seals breaking down.

did you change it your self or have it done?
usually brake fluid gets dirty by the piston moving back and forth (in regular operation) and bring a little dirt back behind the piston then sucked through the whole system. It can build up over the years but I have mever relly seen chuncks befor

If you are refering to some black fine "dust" in your resovoir these are from the seals in you master cylinder. Basically the seals are wearing out and it would be a good idea to change the seals now before you brake fails.

Ok..had a close look at it, it's the rubber seal broken down. My brake fluid get pretty hot on track, could that be the cause of break down or simply old cylinder (90 gtr)? My brakes seem to work just fine right now do i actually need to deal with this?
