  • Is it a constant hassle?

    Hello folks,

long, looong time Skyline fan here; I'm almost at the point in life where family/house are taken care of and can dedicate some funds for the "fun" car, to take care of / enjoy / etc. I would love an R33 GT-R (seems you can get decent ones for 16k-22k, right?) but my main concern is: is it a constant hassle to own a rhd import in Canada/BC?

I see a lot of treads dealing with inspection/headlamps/insurance woes, police semi-harrassment, etc., etc. Would I be able to take the care for a track day in the US? (opinions seem split on this one).

Are you guys able to enjoy your rides, or is there always "something" coming up...?

    Thanks!

I have never had an issue in bc lowermainland area. Saskatchewan on the other hand. That's a different story.

Never had a prob in SK, as long as you don't drive it like you're racing everyone. Pigs will leave you alone. Manitoba on the other hand...heard lots of gruesome stories.

I was harassed when I bought my first skyline 6 years ago, but slowly things got better. Now that I have a GTR I've been stopped once already in the first month I owned it. I just act polite and show all my **** is legit and because the cop couldn't find anything wrong, nailed me for tint. Fought it, had receipts to prove it was legal.

Never had an issue, have yet to be pulled over in 2.5 years of driving it. Must be the white hairs.

it completely depends on how you drive and what the car looks like. I drove mine for a year and a half in toronto and never got pulled over once. The car was stock but lowered on nice fitting wheels. it didnt have a stupid loud exhaust or riceboy stickers all over.

                  Depends where you live.
It's not a hassle here in Toronto.
Though I know from personal experience less then a half hour out of the city is a diffrent issue.

Are you allowed to cross the border and drive around?

The only thing they would be concerned with is if you're taking it down to sell it.

Good luck with your car when you get it. They're kinda like a wife. Often a ton of fun and you'll always be glad you made the commitment. Just be prepared for some fights and aggrivation along the way

Oh and once you've had it around for a few years and decide to part ways... you'll likely loose your shirt on the deal.

Not trying to hijack this thread but anyone on here come from a different car background and get into skylines? I've got like three people that want to buy my foxbody and I have had my eye on r33 gtr's. I been wanting to make the switch but I'm little scared. Never driven or taken a ride in one even. I've seen some r32s at the track and such but thats about it. Anybody come from being mustang or camaro etc person and made the switch? If so any regrets? Thoughts?

Make a separate in the general thread , there are plenty of people here like that and that do the opposite.
