once you sync federal laws with state laws, you remove the illusion of freedom and rights, and that's a big no no for a bunch of gun toting Americans.

Unfortunately its designed this way so the gov gets its cake and eats it too, without causing uproar amongst the people. Remember we're just numbers here.

Its too bad this individual was chosen to be a martyr but someones gotta do it....

It's sad to see that! The car itself didn't do anything wrong! All that coming from a super corrupt, fraudulent government and law enforcing agencies!

It is too bad but the car is just a posession. Not a person.

The US government is a government spiralling the hole , pretty soon it will be going down it.

I'm genuinely amazed that the more informed American Citizens have not excised their right to bear arms against a corrupt government and overthrow them. I guess they are all to busy spending their welfare cheques in Walmart and the nearest dollar store to care anymore . Amazing how a dumbed down education system , misinformation via media and fear mongering has produced such an inept nation incapable of thinking for themselves in such a short period of time.

Ignorance is bliss , maybe i should start watching oprah , Jersey shore , Jerry springer and biggy sizing everything that i eat and I too could exist in the same mindset.

Sometimes I think it's too bad i took the red pill , the rabbit hole is endless and it eventually leads to hell on earth !

The sale of the car as he was trying to sell it, was not legal, but is going on, almost on a daily basis. Here is the think, it is illegal to register this car at the federal level, but not illegal at the state level (in some States), say what ???? and this is the grey zone (well what I have gathered from snooping on the net). If your going to make something illegal at least try to be on the same page. Stuff like this just drive me nuts, the law says ignorance of the law is not a defense, but at the same time the government keeps implementing rules that make's it more and more overly complicated for the general public to understand.

Do I feel bad for the guy, yeah I do. Do I think he should have know better, of course. Do I think is car should have been destroyed this way, of course not. What if a young kid who would have worked really hard to come up with the money to buy this, would have had it taken away from his driveway a couple of month from now. And here is the thing AFTER he would have had it plated and insured. How is it his responsibility to know that this car was illegal, DMV let him plate it, the insurance company let him insure it. The law doesn't offer flexibility, but at the same time most of the time it's explained in the vaguest way humanly possible.

Obviously they made an example out of it, because of it's exposure in the car scene, but if they really wanted to do something about these situation then start synchronizing Federal laws with the States laws, if they could do this 90% of illegal cars driving in the state wouldn't be able to be plated, of course some would revin but that's a whole other issues.

Anyway, I'm seriously thinking that the State should be worrying about a lot more important things, and that if they can afford to deal with petty issues like this, well maybe just maybe they can afford to cut more jobs in those departments.

To be honest this was really never about a car but rather than the way a US official handled the situation . Politics aside this is the type of points of view people hold and obviously we will see a bit of heat on this because of very strong points of view.

A thread always tends to "wander" when it is perpetuated to some degree , this thread being a prime example.

I don't consider ignorance taking control of this , most of what I type happens to be true if you take some time and do research , I trade bullion and know exactly whats going down with the Fed reserve , the US dollar , economy and alot of other factors , thats how I successfuly trade it , i make it my business to know the facts , fact is most Americans (through not much fault of their own) are in the dark and getting screwed. To be honest Canada although being in a better position is actually also being screwed. And I'm actually English not a rah rah Candian i just chose to live in Canada (England is in just as bad shape) .

If you guys would rpefer i'll be more than happy to move the thread to a more appropriate area of the forums

And if your interested i can foward you some interesting links (in the appropriate forum of course) about what is really going down .

                cheers

Well , it was a somewhat cynical - sarcastic dig . Sometimes my English sarcasm and humour gets misplaced over this side of the pond . Kind of why the tv show spitting image was never aired here (you tube it sometime).

And your right , im 6'7" tall at around 260 lbs , not 400 lbs though !! , it's kind of hard to weigh under 150 lbs at my height .

Did you even read the articles, he only received 3 misdemeanor, in exchange for his cars. For a country that NEED all the money they could get to crush cars they could have sold for possibly 100K or more from it's citizen is irresponsible.

Have a look at the article again they said he crossed the line when he decided to sell the cars.

Quote " Beno crossed the line when he put the cars up for sale, Johnson said."

who is Johnson you might ask, it's Brown County Deputy District Attorney Dana Johnson.

When I said "but is going on, almost on a daily basis", I'm talking about the State accepting or doing transaction that are illegal at the Federal level, they are them self committing fraud and promoting fraudulent activity, but thats all good because the Government can be ignorant of it's own law, but not it's citizen, nice . Why is my example more relevant then your dumb kid that simply get what he deserve, and by the way still keeps his car, is simple, in my example one branch of the GOVERNMENT tells you your good to go, while an other branch of the GOVERNMENT comes in and ask you to bend over.

And if you think that this tread/story is only about a stupid car being crush, maybe you need to step back and look at the big picture. Here's a couple of link you can start reading.

OK, let's get this thread back on track!

Just from my point of view, I see this kind of stuff on a daily basis. At RightDrive we get piles of calls from the US from people who want to buy Skylines from us, nearly every day. When I tell them they are unable to import the car to the US, they actually get mad at me, and sometimes yell and scream with expletives because we refuse to sell them a car that is less than 25 years old.

The common thought or comment that all these callers have: "I've seen so many RHD cars and Skylines in my town, they have to be legal, or how else would they be there".

That said, the US Government making an example of this car is exactly what gtrjon said, deterrence.
This happens all the time with celebrities and the law in the US, and tons of other issues. The Government makes an example of one person, to show everyone else in a much publicized way, that they should not do the same thing.
Same reason they went after the owner of the GT-R club in the US, he is high profile and the story would be well publicized, and serve as a warning to everyone else with an illegal import.

This case is not about money, it's about warning. Sure, they could have sold the car at auction for export. But that's not the effect they wanted.
I'd guess there are thousands of illegal imports in the US, the Government could go after all of them if they wanted, but that would require large amounts of manpower. Why not go after a few that will make big headlines and serve as a warning to everyone else?

I don't have first hand sources, so I don't know how true this is, it could be incorrect rumours. But from what I hear, port officials are paid off in Florida to look the other way when the containers of illegal cars come in, then the cars are shipped to New Jersey where they are registered by a DMV office who are paid to illegally register them. This would in theory make them legally registered, but done so in an illegal way.
