  • Coilovers - Which is a good choice?

Just sold my Nismo S-Tune suspension, now need to buy new ones!

I want something that is good for track and street driving. I have a few options, just want to hear what other people are saying. My options are as follows:

    -HKS Hypermax Coilovers
-Tein HA Coilovers (could be different, waiting to hear back from seller)
    -buddy club junior spec
    -hsd

    -Others?

    Thanks in advance!!

I had a set of Apexi N1 coilovers on mine, would have been great for mostly track, but were very stiff for everyday driving. Keep that in mind if you consider the Apexi's.
My car is mostly street driven, so I have a nice combo of Bilstien dampers with Eibach springs. Non adjustable, but very nice ride and good for the odd track day.

Just bought some Ohlins. Look like flag-r's, but without the bottom spring. Anyone know what these are?

Stance and BC Racing are worth taking a look at, i have never heard 1 bad thing from them, and i read many many people buying them, not all skylines, i mean in general, i have bc, but havent driven on them yet and theirs not the specs from the website, mine are custom spring rates and re-valved stiffer with shorter shock body and so on. but i had teins super street basics, worked fine but not very aggresive for track. ive had other friends with the teins kei office and they started leaking after 1500 km.... he was low but i mean still that shouldnt really matter. and cusco have a wide range of quality, but i have heard every model breaking, even the top top models.

but like i said ive heard only good things from bc and no extra charge if u want custom specs. many different cars buy them track and street the bc, and their a huge part of the low community for g37/35 350z and take abuse from driting being slammed and i dont hear them leaking.

just research what you need, then choose whats the best for your ideal set up. you know?

                  good luck

HKS hypermax, let me tell you, handles so tight and strong, haven't played around with the settings, but damn are they great even for road use

                        Nice! Good to hear.

I read on another thread that guys said they have a 1/4 inch travel..? Just don't know what that means..

With some coilovers you adjust lower spring seat (what spring sits on), adjust nut on top of tophat (metal plate at top of shock which bolts to chassis) down shaft (shaft that goes into shock body) to lower car. If spring seat is too low, requires keeper springs underneath main springs, so spring doesn't move around. This reduces the travel (distance between bump stop / secondary spring that's under the top hat, shock body).

For example of keeper spring, main spring combo and shock setup I'm talking about -

BC adjustable coilovers can screw into base of shock to lower car. The top part of shock body to bump stop has the same travel (distance between bump stop and top of shock body) -

Also I think the red colour BC coilovers are more street friendly and gold colour are street / track. You can have lower ride height and stock like travel with BC coilovers.

i have tein coilovers on mine, i think theyre HA. you can have them fully locked out to the point where you cant even push them down, or you can have them set so theyre as plush as stock. just a little knob on the top

I have heard nothing but good things about HSD, best bang for your buck. Hipermax are very stiff on the street, the cars ive driven with them have been very uncomfortable.
