  • Lant insurance policy

This isn't a thread about needing insurance. I've been with state farm for 4 years fully insured

I recently spoke with Lant about a policy and most likely gonna go with them but had some questions
They say you can drive the car leisurely for cruise, shows, to and from friends homes unlimited km's....
More or less you can't have the vehicle for grocery shopping or to and from work
I'm ok with that but obviously if something was a priority or emergency you do what you gotta do (car breaks down, need to use the skyline. On the way to a friends stopping to get snacks or drinks)
Just curious if anyone has ever ran into any issues with a policy like this.

Does the value of your car provided to them encourage the rate?
I was quoted very very cheap, a month and a half of my state farm policy for the whole year

    Thanks fellas

If its that cheap, I would read all the fine print VERY carefully. This sounds like a type of Vintage or Collector insurance and the restrictions are many. You may even be restricted to daylight only, read and read some more.

    Jon.
Why don't you come over to MySpace and Twitter my Yahoo untill I Google all over your Facebook.

I've had my GTST, and now my GTR, on a Lant policy since I first owned one in 2006.

Their only restrictions are as you stated. No commuting/using for work, gotta have 10 years FULLY licenced driving experience, and another car as a DD. Your DD can be insured with any company, just have to prove you have it.

To answer your other questions...just call them.
They are super easy to deal with and very knowledgable of their own policies. (Unlike most insurance brokers)
When it comes to using it for "shopping", thats just to kind of discourage you from taking it on shopping trips. Stopping to get **** on the way somewhere, or even stopping to grab a part for it or something...they have no problem with.

Oh....and put it away for the winter. The coverage is year round, for emergencies I guess, but they don't expect you to drive a "collector" vehicle in the winter. But IMHO, anyone who spends good money to own/restore/maintain one of these should be kicked in the pants for driving one in Ontario winters.

      Rick

**Edit -- They don't need an appraisal anymore either. They will insure the car for what you want it insured for...seeing as you pay by value. You can still get an appraisal done though to be safe....I will be after my GTR is painted. I just insured it for the purchase price when I got it, until some major work is done..

Sweet, I might have to give them a shout next year when I turn 26. I've been with Allstate but maybe they can get me a better deal! Thanks for the insight gentlemen!

No doubt man, if you have a DD it's a no brainer!!
Go on their site and I believe you can see how much your premiums will be for whatever value.
Mine is insured at 10k right now, before restoration work, and I think my premiums are like $225/YEAR!!

Yes, as of your full G.
That is what a buddy of mine was told, but about a year ago. It's best to give them a call, then you know for sure cause it could have changed..

I had my R33 and later even my 2008 S2000CR insured with Lant and I was very happy with them. Not for those who use their reds for DD duties for sure but for guys like me with another car, who uses his GTR for events, cruises, weekends and evenings, it was perfect.

One thing I didn't like was they made me sign a waiver stating I will never run my car at a track event. Yeah right!

Another good thing is they give you a five percent reduction per year up to three years, fifteen percent if you don't make any claims.

Isnt it common knowledge that if you track your car, YOU yourself are liable and any mishaps wont be claimable under insurance policies? Thats how ive always seen it.

At least there is some kind of silver lining for you guys. You may get hammered more than us for regular insurance but at least you have that. The only really cheap stuff here involves a car more than 25 years old and must be bone stock. One bonus is anything older than 1960 qualifies for streetrod modified insurance here....think a 1955 Chevy with a blown alcohol motor and no interior qualifying for $250 a year....nice.

Spread the word, the savings alone will get you a POS DD to save your Skyline from that duty.

                            Jon.

I was with Lant and was quite happy with them. I paid $475 a year on the GTR. They told me they were pretty relaxed about the restrictions and it really didn't matter too much if my wife and I drove it for dinner, or over the border to car shows and such.
