  • To much boost please help ?

here goes im new to the hole fourm thing so bare with me and sorry about the spelling in advance lol

i have a 93 gtst mods are cat back exhaust, hks ssqv, cold air intake
i just put a boost gauge in yesturday from what i have read on here the stock boost is 7-8 psi i know rb20's run a 11.4 to 12.6 psi wastgate actuater the kid i bought the car from said he didnt touch it so how does a 12 pond actuator run less then 12 pounds of boost i know you can run more boost then the actuator is rated for ex boost t or EBC but how does it run less because the boost gauge reads 12 psi at 4000 rpm and the car doesnt like it it shakes like its hitting fuel cut i looked for the 2 stage boost actuator but its not there the hose on the wastgate is looped right to the turbo housing so it makes sence that it is making 12 psi cuz its running just of actuator but is this normal or am i missing somthing the kid said he didnt touch it and the funny thing is the hose looks stock and nothing looks missing ? i am new to skylines but not turbo cars this is confusing me any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

run nistune and tune to run on 12 psi ?

    aftermarket wastegate 8psi spring ?

not sure where to go from here help PLEASE lol

Catback exhaust should raise boost level by 0.1bar

Podfilter should raise boost level by 0.1bar.

      0.2bar x 14.5psi = 2.9psi.

Shouldn't be boosting it past 10-11psi with stock ECU, stock ECU tune.

Some people fit RB20DET internal wastegate actuator to raise boost level.

Sounds like the stock boost control solenoid is not there and the stock boost restrictor as well (fits inside hose).

You can fit a electronic boost controller to drop the boost level to spring psi, or fit a lower psi internal wastegate actuator from a R33 auto.

My GTST ran 12 psi all day long with no boost controller. Depends what mods are there like Skym said.
I'd leave it alone, it's fine where it is. Just don't boost the stock turbo past that, they like to loose the ceramic exhaust wheels.
Your stuttering is not from the boost level, something else is going on (coilpacks, boost leak, etc....), see the "fix your hesitation" thread in the stickies.

GTR without the restrictor runs approx 1 bar (14-ish PSI), didn't think GTST had a restrictor...
