  • GT-R or GTS-T?

I'm gonna get a skyline and I need suggestions what I should get..

Since I'm asking this question, I don't want people posting just to be a critique to me being a newbie etc. so I will say it first.. I don't know so much about skyline

    My options are:
    1. 1996 Skyline GT-R V-spec
      AWD
      124.000 kms

    2. 1998 Skyline R34 GTS-T
      2.5L turbocharged NEO engine
      142.000 kms

    Conditions:
    • This will be my everyday drive.
    • I will drive this during winter time (In Edmonton which produces heavy snow)
    • At the same time, I like the speed.

I'm aware of some risks, but feel free to add the comment. But I would really like your suggestion of one of the options.

GTR = 4wd = safer in snowy conditions.

If hit black ice 4wd helps to gain traction. But it's actually closer to 3 wheel drive, as front LSD would need to be upgraded to 1.5 way LSD or similar.

Daily and winter, GTS-T probably going to be cheaper to maintain in the end though; assuming they're both in about the same shape to begin with.

god this thread is stupid. daily driver, drive it in heavy snow fall, and a project car. want it to fly or read your mind too?

GT-R will be more expensive as a project car. Parts are lots of mulla. Even to maintain is more expensive. If you have a good income then I'd go GT-R. 4WD, looks are nicer, less kilometers, more HP potential.

RWD will be no good in the winter unless you have snow tires and sandbags in the back. Not as safe.

Will this be your first "modified" vehicle? It really sounds like it. I personally would not modify my daily (The old guard told me this while I was younger, and it stuck with me over the years). Because once it goes belly up, you're in quite a predicament. Project cars are pricey, and become high maintenance. That would not equate well with snow and cold weather.

Honestly if you don't have the cash for a daily and a project car, I'd put these plans on hold.

Stock is usually the most reliable for daily use (if serviced correctly), as factory designed the car to do high km (to last the 100,000km or 3 year? warrenty period). Just basic intake, exhaust, ECU tune (tuned to local fuel, conservative tune) mods will make it breath better, run better, get better fuel economy and still be reliable (what Nismo do). Engine will need a refresh, metal headgasket, upgraded bearings, etc to produce more hp and be reliable (S-tune spec engine from Nismo).

My mates GTS-T was daily driven and lasted 180,000km with 100hp above factory hp. Depends on how you drive car.

Ok so for what I read.. Just as I thought, winter would kill this car.
                        For winter comments:
Sorry but I didn't mention that I have a 4WD SUV that I can drive when winter gets hardcore. It's my mom's
(but she rarely drives it) so I need the car to be daily driven. I would just probably take care of it or hide it sometimes in winter when it floods snow.

Well this car.. I don't think so, I know it's a bad idea, but I would love to.

If it is not for this damn winter, I would just mod this car straight up.

                        @EMAGDNIM
Not really, but I would still say pretty much a first time. I had few civics and integra and one of the civic CX had engine swap with H22.

I drove a civic EG si during winter, as well.

So far, what I have is GT-R for winter but would be a waste and expensive.. and GTS for cheap project car.
Since I can find a way out of the snow if needed.. I don't know, still confuses me. I need more opinions.

These two cars the same price? Go for the gtr, don't let people scare you from it,I've had mine almost 3 yrs, i drive it everyday, all year round, through alot of snow, ive had zero issues with anything, theres no block heater, but she starts everytime,-40, Handels better than my f150.I've only had to change an alternator and tires, and a starter and tires. It's expensive if you push it, leave it close to stock and it'll last.

Buy whichever one you like more, and buy a 1500 dollar civic.

Skyline can be driven in the winter, but I don't recommend it. Mine is stored every season.
