  • GTR R32-R34 upgrade

So, I was wondering what you guys thought the actual amount of money required to upgrade from a well maintained stage 1 R32 to a decent R34 gtr will set someone back in a year or two? Will the R32 rise in value because of the US market? Are R32 GTR's set up to increase in value based on her being the first all-wheel drive inline 6 turbo that the GTR has become known for? Is the money required for the upgrade a solid investment for R32 GTR owners, or is the money required better spent on solid upgrades for the legendary 32? Just looking for opinions based on the fact
we all seem too be R34 fanboys despite what we might own now.

I would also like to know. As it stands it is MUCH cheaper to go for an R32 but I LOVE the muscle look of the 34. Price and aftermarket is the only setbacks of r34. Good shape r34 will set you back a solid 25g or more and if you want a crazy track/hella flush r34 setup i just dont see the aftermarket parts for em like the r32. Im going r32 only because im a huge fan of what the gtr really was made famous for (dominating races) and im a fanboy of the classic group A cars and i am basing my setup on those cars (mine just wont cost 700g's, only 40 tops).

I'm also curious about what will happen to the value when they are eligible for U.S. import

I have been around a few R34 GTR's in real life and they are more modern looking, but look not too much different to R33 GTR with strut towers, etc (I know suspension can swap over between R33, R34 which confirms they are using a similar chassis), but the exterior shape looks different on R34 GTR, slight dimension changes with wheelbase, length, I think width.

R34 GTR is alot heavier (try moving a R34 GTR without engine, it's heavy), so needs more hp to make up for the weight. Going by the above, I think R34 GTR is a repackaged R33 GTR. Both R33 GTR, R34 GTR have bracing around rear subframe, etc, which makes chassis better for longevity (can buy similar aftermarket bracing for R32 GTR from HKS, etc). I think R32 is better with turn in due to shorter wheelbase.

Best GTR is the Hakosuka GTR and some sell the other GTR's to buy a Hakosuka GTR.

              I'm addicted to the sound.

I think they like the shape (similar to Ford Mustang), sound of the Hakosuka GTR and the fact it has won the most races (as far as GTR's go), which is 58.

Listen to engine on a Hakosuka GTR racecar (NA 2 litre 6 cylinder) -

this a 1971 skyline gt-r aka "Hakosuka" driven by Motoharu Kurosawa "Gan-San" at fuji speedway.

              Then listen to GTS-R (RB20DET-R) Group-A racecar -

The late Peter Brock in a Group C A9X Torana vs one of Rod Marklands former Skaife/Richards Group A HR31 GTS/R Skylines. A great battle with some great sidew...

Even R32 RB20DET can sound similar to GTS-R, Hakosuka -

Similar low mount exhaust manifold was fitted to this R34 GTR, but doesn't sound the same as the Hakosuka GTR (similar but not the same) -

I'm really thinking about bringing in a r34 gtr in a couple years from now. Looking at auction prices $30-35k landed should get a person a nice non-accident grade 70-110k km non-vspec GTR. Thing that scares me is re-sale. Not many people willing to drop that much money on a 34 GT-R, small buyers market. Have to know person wants to keep car for long time.

If you'd "kill" for 30k you're either crazy, immature or plain broke

Who knows what the market will do but I bet the prices won't change much more for any of the skylines. The R32 is already dirt cheap as it is.

I'm willing to pay the price since they're higher end than the other 2 but they're still old cars and with the awesome 5 years of crap trying to even keep a japrocket running I kinda lost care for one. They are NO MORE RELIABLE that the 33 or 32 and I know that's ugly.

I'll be in for a BNR34 in a few years.

I'll be keeping an eye on the landed Canadian market, while keeping up with Japanese auctions.

In the end, it's up the the end user if it's worth it to sell their R32's for the newer shiny model. Either way, it's going to be a money pit
