  • Need advise on a transmission purchase

Hi guys I don't post on here much anymore but i'm quietly modifying my car and currently that involves my rb25 build. I had purchased an RB25 trans from a JDM importer on the 30th of October. I had already been talking to the guy for days before that to get all the details and such sorted and to test my level of comfort sending a guy over $900 in Ontario from central Alberta like you would..

Now I sent the money back then and I have still got nothing more than a run around about how its moving from one place to the other and basically always almost ready to ship. I've been getting fed up with the fact that I still don't even have the pictures of my trans that I was supposed to get the first night.. he had made it sound like, I made the payment and its just one of many RB25 transmissions he has and it will be dispatched immediately.

Now im at the point where I don't believe its even getting shipped so I have asked for my money back 3 or 4 times. He took many hours to respond to me and now at 1 am he responds to me that he can "happily" and "immediately" refund the money, minus $100 for shipping...

I very highly doubt this is honest considering the conversations I have had with him..

He invoiced my for a subtotal of $800 and $104 gst hst or whatever. no shipping listed on it.

He had told me on the first that they had a truck come but there wasn't enough room for it but I was going to have it shipped out immediately again and send the tracking number etc then but this is now 12 days later and as of yesterday he says "ï don't decide when it gets shipped and neither do you"

Try waiting 5 months on a $12,000 transmission in a different country.

I'm sure it'll come. 12 days... Not so bad. Be patient!

Its hard to wait for stuff. It's especially hard to send out your money to a random stranger! I will only do PayPal because its secure and protects from fraud. I have parts shipping from Australia for my R33. Bought it at the end of September. Still waiting on its arrival. Hard to wait especially when I gave several thousands to someone I've never met in Sydney. Remember that shipping takes time. Things aren't always open, available, or ready to go that day or few days after. Also, time zones play a large factor. I'm in Arizona and Sydney is 18 hours ahead. Its a two day delay in every communication I have there. Do you have a shop name? The US has a "BBB". not sure if you could look up business for reports? Best of luck.

        What shop is it?
Sounds like they didn't have it and ordered one from Japan after you gave them the money.....
I've been inside a few of the "shops" around the GTA, and they don't seem to have near as many parts on hand as they lead people to believe...

Yeah that's pretty much been my assessment of the order for a while now. There is no way it was in Canada and that's why I can't get any pictures. I hope it all works out. No responses for a few days again..

just a bump on this and as a heads up to other people in AB looking on Kijiji lately for RB parts:

Do not respond to the ads for JDM retailers in Ontario selling parts in the area listed as "Calgary" ads. These are the people that still have my money and have stopped responding altogether now. I do no want to slander the companies name because I still hope they at least made good with a refund. Just a heads up that they don't care about you or your money obviously

Hmm. I have a PPG gearbox in red deer if you like but be warned, it's still shiny and new… so it'll cost more than a 2 new get rags lol

it's going to collect dust since I don't quite have all the engine parts needed (labour, machining, assembly, tuning) and with the hours cut at work, who knows when I'll use it.

what's the best way for me to get these guys to give me my money back?
I cant phone/text or email these guys anymore then I have. I'm at the end of my wits with this guy. Do I just simply call the cops and have that joke/waste of time just annoy me more and still get nothing?

Should be able to print out something from your online banking, then print out something with the vendors email on it.
Now that they're ignoring and blowing you off I'd say it's time to post up the shop in question.
With the limited market, really, you would think these "shops" would give more of a **** about Thur customers.
I've had more luck dealing with vendors directly from Japan, and they have less to loose. Funny....

Depending on the amount of money that's in question here, I would consider writing a formal letter, and having it sent by registered mail to the person/business outlying what your expectations are (either return of payment or the item you ordered). Also state explicitly what your plan is if they fail to reply within some X amount of days, ie: file a small claims court claim, or heck file a police report for stolen goods (you'll have to get the details for the procedures for the latter two, but I believe both are possible if you wish to pursue this).

                        Good luck!

All I have done so far is keep the conversations in email and text as much as I can. In those emails and texts he agrees multiple time to send me a refund. He gives me dates that they were to be emt'd back to me. The last date was supposed to be last Friday but for a week and a half no response to any contact. His voicemail is always full also. I told him that I had called and filed a police report and he said if I go further with police then "I will never get any of my money back"

I think it's about time that someone from the area of this business helps a brother out and goes over there to ask WTF. These places need to realize that you can't fvck with car guys. The only reason this is happening is because he thinks he can duck and dodge forever untill this rube from 1000 km away just gives up. Going through the BBB or taking this Bozo to small claims is a PITA and most likely wont get you much back.

If this place was near me, I would gladly go over there to "inform and educate".
