I constantly find myself worrying about my car, almost not wanting to drive it because I am afraid that I will break something... I love driving it, but I'm constantly worried! Does the feeling ever leave?

I know that feel.
I used to constantly worry - especially after I had blown up or broken some stuff. It goes away with time. Eventually you get over it because you realize that even when stuff breaks its not a big deal - even expensive stuff. Life goes on, and enjoying the car is the whole point of owning it.1992 GTR - 2.7L, GT2871R's, forged bottom end, big valves, 270* cams, R34 getrag
2000 Honda Insight - 70+mpg daily driver
2003 Sierra 2500HD Diesel - Tow vehicle

Hmm....never really had that feeling. ALOT of people say to steer clear of other peoples project cars, even Tuner cars because you just inherit other peoples problems. In many cases that can be true, but only if you don't know what to look for when you are buying. I knew without a doubt that my car was built by a good shop in Japan and everything that was important seemed to work well....there are unknowns (there always are) but you gotta have faith that the things you know to be done well are an indication of the rest of the car (including the unknowns).
There is a fair amount of luck involved but you can mitigate a bunch of that by doing your research before you buy.

You drive a car that you just spent two years of your blood, sweat and tears with mild feel of annoyence and disappointment that everything is working and this alone pisses you off.... You come home, post for sale add for your "worries free" ride and buy another project car : D

It's only a car. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy driving my GTS-T and working on it. If you take care of it you will be fine. I am driving a 1993 vehicle and passing broken down late model Lexus, Infiniti, name them all. Have confidence in your ability to keep your car running at it's peak because most people don't.sigpic

It's only a car, exactly. I care about my car enough to like it and try to take care of it but drive it or not, I need to pump money into it. It's a 20+ year old car. What do you expect really. It gets older, it's not new, it's going to break, wear and look old. If you want worry free, it's impossible but a new car with warranty (we got 7 years bumper to bumper on our latest ride) and if it doesn't break down, the dealer lends you an equal ride so you don't need to worry.
Don't by a $15k car and hope it'll be perfect. It won't. Cheers!
I'm on my 3rd engine (2 were built, 1 is a stroker) in 4,500km and 5 years!!!! I drive an eco boost when I don't want to worry and still have some fun.
Here's how I sum up the feeling you and many others have:

Exactly.....its a 15-20 year old car...doesnt matter who built it (Euro, JDM, N/A). Plus the old addage of "if its got tits or tires...its going to give you trouble" comes to mind.
