Need help! Who knows the regulations?

Got my first ticket today! Yay! The cops said I need to have a sign displayed on the rear of my car stating "right hand drive". The act they charged me under does say this but........... The act is referring to turn signals. Here's a pic of the act which they charged me under;


Note section 3(a), that's makes a statement about vechicle turn signals and section 3(b) seems to me that it pertains to vechicles without installed turn signals.

Any thoughts before I go to court and enter a not guilty plea?

I'm no law expert or anything, but it sounds to my like it only requires the lettering if it DOESN'T have regular turn signals. I would call Points or X-Copper or one of those places and check with them.

It clearly states when turn signals are inoperable. (or not present)

I can't believe some cops are still doing this.

Don't pay it, it will get thrown out immediately.

You still have to go in and deal with it...

Just go in to the detatchment and get a watch commander to look at the ticket and the reg. He will withdraw it.

I'll speak with someone tomorrow, I'm not going to pay this......... I think I have to go to the court house and they then give me a date to appear in court. Thanks everyone

You should be able to go to the local detachment who issued you the ticket and get them to cancel it. There is no point in wasting everyone's time by going to court when the law is pretty clear black on white.

In Calgary, when I receive any type of ticket. First I pleed not guilty and mail the ticket in...I then receive a letter and Then take that to traffic court and talk to the justice to discuss the ticket... If we cannot resolve it there at the counter it will proceed to court which can take some time until I get in depending on how busy they are

Just make sure not to plead guilty at any time. You can request a meeting with the prosecutor before the court date. Make sure to record a video of your turn signals functioning and have a copy of the act with you. The prosecutor may throw out the case then and there.

Edit: You can also request a meeting with the officer that issued you the ticket and do the same thing above before you even set a court date.

I have spoken to the nice lady at the court house, she says I have to get in touch with the officer who issued the ticket to see if he will cancel it. (I have tried several times to contact him without luck) if he doesn't agree with me I then have to plee not guilty and I go to court. It's a $115 and 0 points btw.

And....... I was speeding(80km in a 60 zone) he just couldn't prove I was, so that's why he have me the bull crap ticket. I also had my 8year old nephew in the front ( which he needs a booster seat) so they might give me greif about that if it goes to court.

A lawyer? I don't really want to pay anything lol, that's why I want to contest it. But I may just pay the $115 so I don't have all the hassle.

I am not a lawyer. But I can assure you, they cannot ticket you in court for that, if they did not ticket you, or at least give you a warning for it at the time of the infraction.

The argument is simple if it comes up.
"Why was I not ticketed if I was breaking the laws you are only now accusing me of?"

At this point they cannot justify the claims without proof, which they didn't get at the time of infraction. If there is no paper trail, they cannot prove it, and it becomes hearsay, which is thrown out in court, so they will not even try.

Fight it, first with the arresting officer, then staff sergeant, then in court if need be. The law is clear, if your signals work, the charge won't stick.
