  • Thanks to everyone at SkyMeet

Just got home not too long ago, but wanted to post this before heading off to bed.

I had a great time this weekend. Many thanks to everyone who made it, those who had their cars in the show and represented the crew, and for all our sponsors who put their money where their mouth is and went through the expense, energy, and TIME to add true content to the Expo. It was great to see such gorgeous Skylines on display for all to view and admire.

The dinner at Jack Astors was fantastic. It was so nice to see so many diehards wanting to come out and spend time with each other. Definitely the highlight of my weekend. Having these get-togethers truly makes me appreciate what we have started here and the comeraderie online forums can create. Like our online personas, everyone were friendly, mature, and even though I met a lot of you for the first time, it seems like coming home to old friends.

    Notable mentions:
-Dave (Qualthar). Hardcore to the extreme! The only westerner that did what he said he'd do from the getgo: drive across the country in a Skyline GT-R. Easily 10,000kms logged in in one week. The car never looked better!

-Marc (klys). Drove with gf Stephanie all the way from Mtl in the middle of the night to arrive in TO at 6am. wtf? Glad to see you had a chance to make it into a good trip for the two of you, even though most of it was within the confines of the grand prix. We will definitely have another roadtrip to Toronto again in the future and I will play tourguide for you.

-Adam from Feast. Came all the way from Japan for the show, complete with a ton of stuff from jdmland incl a Tomei SR20DET! I hope the show was good to you and rewarded your hard efforts. Thanks for the shochu. 8)

-Mitch (JDM-Imports) with the help of Daryl at jdmspeedshop. Easily one of the nicest GTRs I've ever seen in the country. Simply gorgeous. Very complete booth.

-Dave (Z-tuned) for setting it all up, for the special tickets 8) and still finding time to have dinner with the GTRCers even though I knew you were running around all day like a chicken with its head cut off!

I learned a few things from this meet, and next year things will be very different. I had spoken to alot of you at the show and told you my thoughts on the whole GPT thing. Comments were heard as well and appreciated. Two things that come to mind right away. 1) the venue was too large and too diverse for a proper meet. Next time it will be simpler, more focused and only have one official day so everyone can roll in and roll out that night and have full use of their rides for the weekend. We can carry on informally as a group in the days afterwards but the actual Skymeet will be a one day event. I still want to have it hosted by another event, but it will be much, much smaller. 2) if someone will step up to the plate and volunteer to organize it, I would like to have 2 meets, a western one in Vancouver, and one for the east in TO. This will serve the two largest concentrations of the GTRCers and will eliminate the requirement of everyone having to drive obscene distances (though still cool if you guys want to go to both meets and drive to them ).

I will post pics in the thread soon. Right now I need to sleep.

    Cheers,
    John

From what I can see from some of the pictures posted, and what everyone that attended has said, it sounded like an excellent experience. If only I was there, but unfortunately I'm not quite as hardcore as qualthar and couldn't afford (time and money) to make that cross-country road trip! Dave, did you have any issues driving your GT-R that distance in that amount of time? Sounds like a blast to me!

I think the idea of having two locations for next year's meet is great. I'm sure there wouldn't be an issue of finding enough GTRCers to register for a western meet either. I don't have a whole lot of experience organizing events, so I'm not stepping up to the plate for this, but I'd be more than willing to volunteer for anything other than "head cheese" for the western meet next year, if need be.

Looking forward to seeing more pics of the event! 8)

that dude with AB plates drove across country?

that is as impressive as the guy in DM who drove his GTS-T down from MTL, killed it and looked fantastic during the drift demo's, then up and drove the thing back to MTL the next day.

honestly, the guy who did that (is he on here?) is now the coolest man in Canada

                First off
I must thank Dave Pankew (Z-Tuned) and Alex(solution) for letting me in on Friday morning. I know it must have been a hassle for you guys for big up!

The show was well put together except the fact that all GTRC members weren't together.

I was really happy to meet all of you guys in person, most for the first time. I really had a blast at Jack Astors The food was good the brew was excelent and everyone there made the evening a shinning succes.
We alsohad an intimate and interactive supper with Qualthar and Mat and my GF nooo nothing strange happened at the old spaghetti factory on friday which was also pretty good.

And I would like to thank Adam Truesdale for brigging us to Mr. Greek for our farewell supper.

does it show I like to eat  hehe

all in all I'm real glad I made the trip and hope to see the whole crew again soon!

I must it was very cool to put faces to the names on GTRC... and i can't wait for next year... hopefully next time my car will be ready for it :P

and yes big kudo's to Dave (however he probably won't see this till the end of the week :P) he holds the true GTRC spirit

and it was awesome to finally meet Adam in person i think 1/2 my team will be rocking RHD's by next year now LOL hahahah

so lots of credit needs to go to those who organized this... and i can't wait till next year

Thanks for the mentions guys, I just got home about 15 min ago. I'm dead tired so it'll be short and sweet.

I put about 7900kms on my car this trip, and got a flat tire about 2 hours shy of Edmonton last night, delaying us an extra day. I'll add up all my gas receipts and let ya know how that went.

It was quite the experience, lots of fun and we had a ton of hilarious times. It was great meeting all the guys out east. Next year I expect to see you guys out here for the meet! I'll be waiting at the airport Marc
