This link below has a photo of both N1 and stock pumps -

As far as I know with N1 pump on RB20DET, RB26DETT, you run smaller oil restrictors.

Isn't it the inner gear that usually lets go anyways?

            Yup, inner gear first typically.

There was some pictures online of a broken outer gear, but that likely happened because the inner broke.

For the minimal amount of cash over stock, that looks like a really good upgrade. Thanks for the pics, I've been looking for a visual comparo for a while. Don't bounce the limiter and keep her capped at 8000 rpm and it's all good. Absolutely manditory even in a stock rebuild.

Is there an indicator on the outside of the pump so you can ID it already installed?

              Jon.

RB20 is a bit more forgiving in that realm

only for the pump drive, doesnt mean you cant shatter the gears banging off the limiter.

Hmmm...I can see why the June/Tomie/Nismo pump is so tuff. Not only is everything bigger but they also doubled the amount of fasteners on the cover and dowelled it. Is it just me or is there a little bit of a saw tooth to the lobes of the N1 pump?

Does any one know if there is a # or some other mark on the outside of an N1 pump to identify it while it's still mounted to the engine. I'd like to know if the pump in my new car has at least an N1 in it without taking the pump off to find out.

                      Thanks....

                      Jon.

there is a way of telling, the pumps have different colour paint mark on them, but i'll double check which colours mean what.
