battery relocation question,.

the best way i found to do it (as i also came across this problem) was to make a junction box and attach it to the strut then re route new wires back to where the new battery is going (in my case behind the passenger seat). I tried to follow it but ended up being to hard to track without opening up all the nice clean wires. Junction box looks clean and rather easy to do.

only pic i have of it really is when i was still building the car
u can see the battery box behind the seat. I used a sealed battery box with a ignition key on the top so the battery can be turned off. Dont really have a pic of the junction box. Its pretty simple setup but works really well. Make sure u use sum decent thick wire as u dont want voltage drop through shitty wires or wiring. From the battery i connected it up through this.
just gets rid of the need for an ignition barrel (keys are over rated anyways haha). Then from here it followed the stock wiring that was in the ignition barrel. All in all it took about 3 hours to do but without the switches its a simply soldirng and re routing job.

Track Rules
If you relocate your battery to anyplace in the car other than the factory position you must (NHRA, SCCA maybe):
have the battery enclosed in a sealed box (or make a firewall between the trunk and pass. compartement) if a lead/acid type (Optima OK) ,
be restrained by a min. 3/8" fastener with a strap or plate over the top of the battery and
(the PITA one) an external shut-off must be present on the rear of the car with a lable indicating how the SWT works (ie: PULL/OFF, PUSH/OFF...etc), futhermore the shut off must be wired into the ALT. to completely kill the car if the SWT is turned off. They will test this by having you start the car, then they will hit the SWT. If your car does not stop running you will fail Tech.
If you ever want to go to the strip even on a fun "let's curb street racing" nite at your local track, they will most likely fail you on that if not done according to NHRA rules. The stupid thing is, they don't care if your car runs 14's. I damn near hit 11's off the NOS in my Chevelle with my battery in the stock location and they never even gave the lame hold down a second glance, because it was stock. Went low 11's hiting the NOS in second gear and got kicked off for being too fast and not having a roll cage.
Jon.Why don't you come over to MySpace and Twitter my Yahoo untill I Google all over your Facebook.
