wow 10w 40? Is that better for the hydro litters? Is it better that 10w30? I think I'll just stick with amsoil until I rebuilds then I'll try something else

10w40 is going to stay thicker at higher temperatures than a 10w30, but keep in mind the wider the spread in viscosity numbers the greater number of VII additives, and the quicker the oil will break down at high temperatures.

It's also very hard to compare different viscoscities of oils from different manufacturers. IE, Castrol Syntec 0w30 is 12.1cSt @ 100C. Mobil 1 5w30 is 9.8cSt @ 100C.

I plan on running Castrol Syntec 0w30 after my motor is broken in. The 0w30 stuff should say made in germany on the bottle, and is much different and better than any of the other syntecs that are made in the US. All the other Castrol Syntec oils are a Group 3, purified petroleum based oil, while the German 0w30 Syntec is a Group 4 PAO oil.

Also, I think Wix filters are probably the best in terms of price/performance. NAPA Gold filters are made by Wix, and cost less than a Wix-branded one.

After talking to engine builders locally and in California, and reviewing as many oil comparison tests as I could find, my choice is Royal Purple 20W50 in the summer and 10W40 in the winter, with oil changes every 5,000Km using an OE Nissan or Pitworks oil filter.

From my understanding, Royal Purple has similar friction modifiers to what Mobile1 used to have before they dropped them to meet the newer environmental standards. Mobile1 no longer has these addatives, and most other modern synthetic oils don't either. The benefit of these addatives was that they greatly reduced the bearing wear caused by the friction and pressure between the connecting rods and the journals on the crank shaft. The down side was that these friction modifiers aren't as environmentally friendly, and they don't last as long as some modern oils do. Engines running Royal Purple have been shown to dyno 5HP higher than engines running the same weight Mobile1 oil, so that's a great indication of how well they reduce friction.

Since the bearings in a turbo car are the part of the engine most subject to wear and abuse, and since I change my oil every 5K anyways, Royal Purple is the best choice in my mind.
FINAL CLEARANCE! EVERYTHING MUST GO NOW!

hey guys, for a 93 GTS-T RB25DET, I was thinking of using castrol syntec 5w30 or mobil1 5w30 as I havae several of those stocked in my garage...would these be ok? it is my daily driver, I rarely beat on it, should the oil be fine?

as for oil filter, would the 240sx or 300zx (NA or TT) oil filter fit on the RB25DET?

used RP 10-30 during fall/winter/spring and 15-40 in summer.

I read up a very detailed study recently and will test out 0-30 or 5-30.

hey, has anybody heard anything about Royal Purple having some kind of metal shavings in the oil? i was talking to an engine rebuilder but he might be full of crap
I've been brushing my teeth with jack but it's resulted in terrible amounts of tooth decay.

I've never used Royal Purple before, but I've heard it's pretty good. I'll stick to my 5w30 Castrol Syntec for my 'Yotas. I figure what's good for TTE is good enough for me
