my goal... is to be able to display information and entertainmewnt, without having to resort to putting 10 gauges all up and on my dash.. i think that doesnt look good.
just run a 4 channel amp in your trunk fed from the soundcard. A big hard drive to hold all your tunes and you're set. To get really fancy, set it up for wireless networking so you can send files from your home pc to the car in the driveway.

For PowerFC, maybe can rig up a HKS camp setup (I presume for OBD I)-

HKS Camp 2 is for OBDII -

But it requires to be plugged up to the OBD (On Board Diagnostics) plug under dash on drivers side and I think it doesn't work with APEXI ECU.

Yep, that's basically my plan.....except for the big hard drive......I decided I'd pick up a solid state drive to see how well it worked, pretty good so far in my tests, but I don't think I could use one in my desktop yet.

there are small slot in dvd reader/cd writer that are available you could put in the glove box or in the armrest... as for the radio you could use a tv tuner card wich also works with am/fm ...

as I said the possibilities are unlimited but the high cost of that makes it less attractive for the wallet...

also i agree on the ssd beacause of the small power requirement bulletproof factor ... for loading files you can use usb flash drives ... and flash cards with a reader...

          thanks

Solid state is ideal, but a regular hard drive in a decent enclosure should work fine.

are regular HDD's rated to withstand the G-force of a GTR at full accelleration? or even during intense cornering? lol

yes they are ... i would recommand that they be mounted in a gel sleeve and or a case on rubber feets... for maximum longevity ... they are sensible to vibrations on the long term, you shoul place them as close to the car's center of gravity as possible... so the arm rest... ssd are not cheap but have no moving parts so they resist better to physical abuse...

normally 2,5" laptop hdd ... resist better to shocks than there big brother the 3,5" workstation hdd so you could check that out..

anyways i've been playing with a 3,5hdd in car for a while and so far so good... they're cheap easy to find and have a shitload of capacity... but they need more power ... so be sure you have a good p/s to back them up

                thanks

They have had solid state P2 card HD videocamera's for a while that run of battery's. It supposedly is going to handle up to around 2x 120gb P2 cards when they release them. Supposedly you need update of software to support the bigger size cards.

It's amazing technlogy, as one dude got his P2 HD camera shot up in a war zone and dropped camera during the process of getting shot up and it still worked afterwards. In a car application it would be perfect.
