  • need general advice!

Hey guys. I'm 9 hours away from my baby. I have no internet other than my phone and I can't sleep well until I can put a few fears to rest.

I have a 90 gtr r32 with a lot of aftermarket stuff and no paper trail. So I need some stupid questions answered.

    1. Is there a way to tell if I have got a different engine block or an oil pump fix without gutting the engine?

    2. All 6 of my injectors are leaking =( and the shop I took it to failed to tell me I needed new injectors. So would any harm come to my car if I went with 600cc injectors in place of the stock 440 ones?

    3. With new injectors should I think about upgrading anything else?

    4. My ecu was changed out for another stock one and I have no idea why. What are good ecus these days that have dealers in calgary? Would I see major benefits to going with an aftermarket ecu?

    5. After a recent oil change I pulled the dipstick after a run around the block and it was black as sin. Is this normal? What could cause this?

If anyone could be grand enough to answer what they know I would be forever grateful.

    Thanks,
    -Brando

1.) Part number on side of shortblock, O5U, etc. Aftermarket oilpump should be noticeable from outside with extra port on bottom right, but N1 oilpump might not be as obvious, as I think they use stock pump housings.

2.) Deatchworks injectors should work with new stock O rings (I think are available through Ztune) -

3.) Stock ECU would need Nistune (allows you to adjust ECU tune anytime you want or need to) fitted to adjust for bigger injectors. Also advisable to upgrade MAF to Z32 x 2 and fit bigger lph (litres Per Hour) Nismo fuelpump at same time. Then get engine retuned. Talk to Ztune, as they have a group buy on GTRC forum for Nistune -

4.) For competition use, yes aftermarket in most cases is better. Modified factory ECU with Nistune is good for most applications like streeet, trackday, etc.

5.) Not changing oil or oilfilter.

That's a piss off if the shop I took it to never changed the oil.they charged me for it. Also I have never heard of nistune. Is there people in Calgary who can tune that?

Also is there a place I can order an English service manual from? It would be really nice if I had something that told me where all the bolts go.

You will however need to register and contribute a bit on the forums before you have access to downloads.

If your injectors are leaking, I'd much rather change the o-rings and spend a LOT less than a whole set of new injectors.

Any time you add fuel (bigger injectors) you have to tune appropriately. At the same fuel pressure 600cc injectors will flow more fuel than 440cc's...doesn't work without making the proper tuning adjustments.

My biggest recommendation, before you spend money on anything aftermarket run a compression and/or leakdown test to make sure you aren't wasting your money.

And unless the oil was extremely dark before, and wasn't routinely changed it can still come out somewhat black/dark. But if it is extremely dark...I'd be very and I mean very weary of ever dealing with that shop again.

No I'm not ever going back to that shop. They tell me they replaced things with new but in fact it was used that wasn't as worn. That also changed out my injector o rings or so they said. And now my injectors are leaking from the body and they failed to tell me that after it was blatantly obvious it wasn't the o rings leaking. Its like they never checked their Work

I'm not too sure what shop you're talking about?

I'm not gonna say who they are. Its not worth it. Apparently they only want to keep their current customers happy and when I tried to get service since I had never been there before I don't think they cared. Point of the matter is I'm never going back there. And I just want to get my car running again.

Had you ever smelled fuel under the hood before you had your car required at that shop?

Ya there was fuel smell under my good before I went there. They said I needed new o rings.

So I got them to replace them and they apparently did.

But a day later I realised the gas smell again so I brought it back saying what the hey.

They brought it into the back and tested it and they said my injectors were leaking from the injector body, not the o rings.

                      They even showed me.

So I said well wtf you installed the new o rings and didn't even mention that my injectors were leaking. How could you not notice when you found the problem so easily now.

They couldn't really give me a straight answer.

I have them once more chance to redeem themselves and asked them to find me replacement injectors for cheap and get them tested to make sure they wouldn't leak.

That was last summer and I have not heard a word back from them since.

So I guess they just don't care.

Also they told me I needed to replace suspension bushings so I told them to go for it and they charged me for the installation of 2 new bushings.

So I took it to another shop to have the tires replaced and they told me I have 1 new one and 1 used one.

Point of the matter is I'm never going back to autodream in Calgary EVER again.
