  • Transmission Removal?????

Does anyone have a step by step write-up on how to take the tranny out without removing the engine...
Problem is, I really don't want to tilt the engine as well...
    Anyone!?

    Thanks
    Christian

its not that bad, just took mine out last week, dont have a step by step, its alot of tedious bolts, and i had to tilt my engine to do mine.

i've done it twice now. takes about 6-7 hours with a hoist and tranny jack. How do you plan on pulling the trans w/o tilting the engine? What is your concern with tilting the engine?
The job is very straight forward if you have some mechanical skills. The only tricky parts are getting the top starter bolt off and of course lining up the input shaft with the clutch disk.
The two ways I've removed the top starter bolt is the easy way (intake manifold was off) and the other way (fairly easy) get your friend with small hands to reach up AFTER THE ENGINE/TRANNY HAVE BEEN TILTED with a stubby ratchet/box end wrench and remove it that way.

I can give you some more pointers if you can answer the above questions. Otherwise GOOD LUCK!

an easy way of getting the top starter bolt is remove the battery and use a 3 foot extension with a swivle socket under the intake manifold going in on an angle from where the battery was. works like a charm

Tilting the engine back, once the tranny mount is removed, makes things easier too and you won't blow up your engine doing that.

Removing/installing a tranny is much like other RWD cars. Have someone that knows what they're doing mechanically if you haven't done much yourself.

Guinness helps clear the mind too.
