  • power steering problem

hey so i am stumped so on this one so here it goes
the other day i installed a new cluster on my gts and long story short my speedo cable snapped. so when i finished dealing with that i had to go pick up my gf from work. so i go to pick her up and on the way there i noticed that my steering got stiff, like my power steering wasnt working and for some reason my one headlight burnt out. so i shut the car off when i get there and wait. when she gets out i turn the car on and go to leave for home and the steering works again but then after a couple mins of driving it cut out again. so i get home and change the bulb and it works, ok so great thats fixed. but now i still dont know whats wrong with the steering, every time i start the car it works but then after a couple mins of driving it cuts out and even if i am at a stand still after if cuts out it still doesnt work till i shut the car off so could it be the pump or a belt slipping??
i checked the power steering fluid and it is not low and there are no leaks

    any help is much appreciated

This happened to me as well. Although my speed cable didn't break. I had my cluster out and was doing work on the car, then went for a drive and the steering was like there was no power at all. It was because of the cluster not being in. So I think HICAS only works when the speed cable is connected or not broken. Get your speedo cable fixed and your power steering will probably be fixed.

i've covered this issue in soooo many threads

the speedo runs off the cable, sends a signal to the ECU, to tell it which speed you are going
without a cable (or no cluster) the ECU receives no speed signal,
it will know the car is moving, via the ABS sensors but at 0 km/h (no speed signal), thus after a couple seconds the car is started/driven, it will turn off the power steering via a valve on the steering rack

i don't know WTF is going on with your headlight though

and you won't get p/s back untill you get a new cable

Much better said. I was trying to think of a smart way to say it but I wasn't fully sure on how it works.

ok well i should have a new cable in this weekend and i think the bulb going was coincidence and also after i put a new cluster the oil pressure is always sitting at 8 when o am driving and around 4 when sitting still but on my other cluster it sat above 4 and went down the the mark under 4 when sitting dont know what it should really be at
