I have a Fairlady Z Z32 NA. Yesterday, after doing a long drive with her, at a consistent speed, she started garggling like a Subaru at around 3000RPM. After about 3km's, it got pronounced... quite loud, and vibrations were occuring.
At first I was scared of a Rod Knock, but I heard no knock or pinging noise, just a loud rumble - exactly like a Subaru, just with slightly slower timing between rumbles. She now runs really rich, drinks fuel, and struggles to hit 120 on the highway. As for even getting up to highway speed - well that now takes awhile.
I'm thinking just a misfire, however my experience with VG30DE's is VERY limited. I had a Mechanic take a quick 3 minute look today, and he's sure it needs plugs and wires, just judging by the sound, and the rumble when I build revs using the throttle.
Is there any other ideas as to other stuff I should be looking for? I'm doing a full plug swap tomorrow, so if it's not them, then I'm going to be quite scared - I can't even afford OEM Injectors right now let alone Aftermarket.
Any ideas?
