  • 91 octane eastern fuel

Hey all, I have a constant fear about our low octane fuel here in NB. I'm planing on buying a R33 soon and I'm already thinking about upgrades and whatnot. But my real question is for a build like GTR-DAD's, (responsive, high-torque with 2860-5's). How much would our lower premium fuel reduce the performance of a built GTR? I was always aiming for +/- 475 whp with -5's but I'm debating if it's possible w/o water/meth kit and toluene... I don't want to build a hi-end GTR that can't go all out, but I don't want to run toluene all summer either... Just like to know you opinions...
    Thx

475 can totally be reached running 91 pump fuel... most of our group here in QC running -5's or similar are seeing 450 whp on 91.. (tyler's car)....

don't worry, totally do-able! just need to have it tuned accordingly.

Dan (Gtr-dad) is tuned with 91 octane at approx 2800 feet elevation (red deer Alberta) you will easily achieve your target of 475 whp given the fact you will br able to run more boost safely being at sea level . If you are concerned about the limitations of your stock engine but want to push more hp and do it safely then run meth and tune tune tune ! A quality clean tune will decide how long your engine lasts. With the basic mods - -5's if that's what you want, fuel system, exhaust , intake , TUNE , and meth you will be in the upper 400whp range allllll day hahaha Don't forget about your clutch either

      Cheers

You drop $20k into your engine and you'll get that power no problem. -5s and a 26 could get you 500whp on 91 and still have 11 AFRs.

I would never buy Irving gas again. This past summer they were selling premium 91 and it was actually their 87.... Big fail. On the other hand atleast they admitted to it once it was all said and done.

if you want to be technical most gas comes from the same source, its the additives the seperate gas companies add that makes its different. A close friend of mine is a petroleum engineer at the co-operators in Regina thats how I found this out.

I was also told at Mohawk that the mid grade is only the 87 octane mixed with 94 octane,I didnt believe it until I noticed they only have 2 gas holding tanks. the first 10 liters is 87 octane the next 10 liters is 94 octane so ppl who only run mid grade and add 10 liters per time are only getting 87 octane. if any of you work at a gas station maybe you tell me if this is true of not ?

Prior to my race build I was only running Schell 91 and never had a bad batch of gas. Now with the built motor I only run mohawk 94 octane and also have never had a bad batch.

Only in the Lower Mainland, up here in the boonies we still got 90, 92 and 94.

ALL major METRO areas in Canada now have a min. of 5% Ethanol in their fuel. As a result ALL of the base-stock fuel is now 85 octane (in those areas), to get 87 octane they add the required 5% Ethanol. So now you have only 87, 89 and 91 instead of our 90, 92, 94 because our base-stock is still 87 octane.

EVILGTR is correct, to get the mid-grade 92 at Mohawk/Husky they just mix 50/50 the 90 and 94 as you fill your tank. From what I have been told from a dude who maintains pumps they are mixed with gear driven, positive displacement pumps to make sure the mix is a proper 50/50.

I will preach and praise once again how completely awesome the Husky/Mohawk 94 and 92 is. I just ran 1.4-1.5 bar with 32 deg. of ign. timing at 11.8 to 12.1 AFR and made right around 700hp with ONLY the 94 in the tank (no Tolulene that I usually run). You would NEVER get away with this with anyone elses donkey-piss.

There's more in her too, I looked at my commander a bit more closely and found out I was PEAKING at 87% on my duty cycle but was averaging about 76%. The peak was at the gear change and was only registered as a peak for about a 100th of a second. I think I can push about 50 to 75 more ponies out of her with .15bar more puff. 1000cc injectors by the way.

Yea .3 points, meaning you are now at 91.3 octane. The use of the term "point" is ment to be as vague as possible to make you think they mean 3 full octane #'s. Besides, the bottle is so tiny you could never get more than that anyway.

Save yourself a heap of money and buy a 5 gallon pail of Tolulene, you can get 20 one litre shots of booster for about $3.25 a shot. Save your 1 litre oil bottles (clean them out....duh!!!) and carry them around with you with your booster in them.

                            Most Octane boosters are:

                            75% Tolulene
23% Clear Kerosene (it has about 80 octane but is ment to be a cleaner)
2% ATF for a pump lubricant

I have been using it for about 15 years now, works really freaking good (I use a gallon per tank).

Well......I had to open my big fat yap, didn't I.

I just filled up to day at Mohawk and guess what...........87,89 and 91 only. Why you ask?

It just came down the pike officially today, ALL fuel sold in CANADA starting in the new year will have a min. of 5% Ethanol in it. If you didn`t buy fuel from Husky/Mohawk because you didn`t like the idea of running Ethanol, tough, you can`t avoid it now.

The Husky stuff will still have 10% in it for the mid and premium fuels in the summer time so it should be just as good as Chevron 94, but with a cheaper price. Currently (well, not any more I guess) the Husky 94 was much better than the Chevron 94.

Get used to the smell of Ethanol........it`s here to stay.

                              Jon.
