  • SS brake line install issue

Hey all, need some help/advice. I'm installing my SS brake lines and managed to round off the nut on one of my hard lines, rthe one where it comes thru the wheel well and connects to the rubber line above the clip. I used a 10mm flare nut wrench but still managed to round it, now I can't get it off. Any advice?

    Thanks in advance!

heat it up a bit...a bit and just use vise grips or the special bolt remover pliers

"Cracking" the nut in the tightening direction first usually works for me, then it comes off. After rounding off a nut, there's not much other than what mark says. Mechanical 101...

Make sure you have glasses on when you do this though. Boiling brake fluid tends to shoot out of the line and you will not want to get any in your eyes. Burns to your skin can heal, burns to your eyes will blind you :P

You can get it quite hot and then clamp some vice grips on the rounded nut and it should go right out.

If you cut the line right at the rounded fitting you could also get one of these on there, and with a bit of heat it should come out very easily.

You could also try and cut the line right behind the flare nut and try and get a socket on it and add some heat. Then you just have to get a new nut and re-do your flare.

Thanks guys, I'll try heating it up. Already tried cracking it in the tightening direction, no dice. If heating fails guess I'll have to cut and re-flare, still hoping to avoid that.

            Cheers!

I would try what bignate said. In the future always use flare nut wrenches on brake lines. Never strip

Damn good info, I was just about to tackle my SS lines aswell. Off to Canadian tire I go!
Traction is optional, so are zipties

Or Snap on Flank drive plus. Never stripped one with one of those wrenches.

Unfortunately I was using a flare nut wrench - still stripped. Looks like I'm going to have to cut and replace the nut and re-flare the line. Anyone know where I can buy just the nuts? Do I have to go back to Nissan?

Yeah, got some new nuts, gonna replace. All the others came off nicely, only had problems with one. Meh.

Ended up cutting the biatch off, but not enuf straight length to re-flare once I get the flare nut on, not big on straightening and re-bending. I'll either get one of the guys in the shop to re-bend the whole line, or just do a section and put in a union to connect farther up the line. Joy.
