  • Help ASAP: Trying to remove brake on a GTR.

    Hello guys,

first: I'm trying to remove my back rotor and I can't. It seems like something is bolted to the rotor and I simply can't remove it.. Does it have to do with the hand-brake? Is there something bolted to the rotor?

I did the samething as the front ( remove the caliper and slide the rotor out) it won't come out.

Second: Is there a special tools to remove the SS lines bolted to the frame ( I mean the one that come from inside the wheel well and then bolted to the SS lines.) All I'm doing is twisting the lines..um weird.

    Thanks!

That would be the hand break holding the rotor on! there is an adjustment hole but you could try tapping the hat of the rotor with a hammer to loosen it up first!
aww crap, did you see that!

Release the e brake and try again?

Maybe you have to take off the wheel bearing nut???

I never worked on a skyline yet so I'm unsure.

      Just trying to help man
Come on lotto!!! Daddy needs a whole lotta stuff!

get a flat blade screw driver. With the hand brake down align the hole in the rotor with the rubber gromet to the 6 o-clock position, put the screw driver in there and give the tension wheel a couple cranks. Get a flash light and look inside the little hole in the 6 o-clock position and you will see what im talking about.

when you install your new rotor, the hand brake needs to be adjusted. For noobs, doing this with the axle out is easiest. Just assemble everything back together with your brakes and then tighten that tension wheel till there is the slightest amount of rubbing. one click makes a difference. Put axles in and done. I say axles out cuz its easier to feel the drag, thats all.

If you bought new shoes then i would make sure the handbrake inside the car isnt over adjusted before I do the above. Pull handbrake up and you will see a rod with a 10mm nut on it. Loosen it off till you have around 1/2 inch roughly. Pretty much just loosen it some if its been tightened to shi*.

The rotor could be rusted to the hub. Spray some WD-40 or release-all to the backside of the rotor where it meets the hub. Wait a few minutes then give the rotor some love taps with a hammer on the raised center portion.
          Regards,
          Ken.

Realise my hand-brake is actually on but I forget my key.. So, I won't be able until tomorrow to get in my car and put my hand-brake off.

So, I guess this resolve problem #2. How about problem #1 lol? Thanks!!

              you mean problem 1?

To stop the line from twisting, simply use two wrenches. A 10mm one and then match a wrench to the metal block. I think a 14mm works? Its all common sense. Dont use a hammer on the rotor if the e-brake wasn't off/loosened. You can bend **** up or bust a shoe. The axle nut has nothing to do with it. If anything, get a couple 10mm round bolts and thread them into the 10mm threads on the rotor if its rusted. Every brake rotor has those threaded holes for that specific reason. I keep a couple bolts in my tool box at all times for brake jobs.

If your 10mm brake line is starting to strip you can use a proper hose wrench or just use vice grips. Ive had to use vice grips several times on my own cars and never have a problem. Just dont over tighten and wreck the seal. WD40 or nut cracker on everything before you begin as well always helps!

To get my rear rotor hat off, which was seized on, I adjusted the tension down as low as I could, and beat the hat with a brass hammer. Popped off soon after. These sometimes rust on to the hub.

As for the copper or steel lines, I used a vice grips and liquid wrench. If it doesn't give way easily, 2 wrenches help reduce the twisting effect. This is common on most cars anyways, very basic stuff Good luck.

                  I had this problem.

Don't hammer it as you'll damage the rotors.

There should be two threaded holes in the rotors and you just tighten a matched bolt through it and it will push it off the hub.

                  Tada.

My rotors had no threaded holes like most cars I've owned. The brass hammer did no damage as it is softer and not heavy enough to really shake things up.

                    Edit:

Sorry, had a brass punch, been a while lol, came off easy with few a pounds. Here's some pictures.

After that, slap on the new rotors, if they fit

Dont forget to put some anti seize on the hub face before you put your new or old rotors on. You wont have to beat on them next time you take them off.
