  • headlight: low and high beam wiring schematics?

I'm trying to get my low beam to be on when the high beam is activated.

Anyone got info or pix on the wiring?

This would be a good info for ppl driving @ night in dark roads as high beam triggers low beam to be off. W/ HID's, when you flicker the high beam off for opposing traffic, low beam will be dim as it needs to warm up again + not good for ballasts. I think having the high beams turn on/off without affecting low beam would be great (also most new cars have this function)

    Cheers

    here you go http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=...=1&FORM=IDFRIR

when u click the link the last 2 images on th right will be the best examples. but basically you have the diode there to isolate the lo-beam from the hi beam circuit when you want lo beam operation only. however with hi beam, power will flow to both hi and lo because of the orientation of the diode with respect to the hi and lo inputs.

This might work if the headlights were wired that way but they are not, each low beam has a separate wire to trigger them and they do not go thru a relay, the high beams are also individually wired, however you can trigger the hi/low relay from the steering column. To trigger the relay you do not need another relay, as the existing one can be triggered at the steering column. I beleive that you could do this by adding a single spst switch, you cannot use the existing hi/low as this removes the low beam. I will try to find the color of the trigger wire that will turn on the high beam relay that is in the engine compartment. There has been so many questions about the headlights I might have to make a "all you need to know about headlights" if people are interested. I ended up making my high beams my driving lights ... at a reduced voltage as I am running HID's for low beams, very easy to install module as all wiring except the power to the DRL module is done within the car, oh and legal too...

Actually tested and found that this would work, you do not require a separate relay all connections are done at the steering column connector...
