cant get door open

so over hte weekend couldnt get my door to close and latch after messing with it for a few minutes and locking and unlocking it it finally closed like normal. but then went to open it again and now it wont open...and when i try to unlock it with the key i cant turn the key

open the latch on the inside by removing the cover for the lock and latch than pull the rod with your hand

this is definitely a unique problem... how very curious... there's not a whole lot inside these doors that would make something like that happen.

maybe this story sounds familiar to you...
I recall one time when I was a child messing around with the latch mechanism on my parents van... I remember flipping a switch up and it jammed the latching mechanism open, so the door would swing closed but never latch! (probably like 12 or 13 years old at the time)... after fiddling with it again, I went to close the door again and this time it latched, but as you describe right now, it would not open again!

I don't know what the solution is, my dad spent some time swearing and fixed it though... did you or someone else mess with the latch assembly by any chance? lol

wel archaeic_bloke your storey is the exact problem i am having...i myself never fiddled with it but i noticed that every so often my friend would get in the car it would do the hole swing shut but not latch thing and he would just do something with the latch and it would work perfect but this time my gf had went to get in and the door wouldnt latch and she just locked and unocked the door a few times and then tried shutting the door and it latched but now will not open

so after alittle while of fiddling with it...it seems to me as if the rod for the door handle itself came off :S

LMAO... thats amazing! what are the odds eh... If I recall correctly, it was a small tab that moves up and down and usually has a black rubber tip on it... and then theres a hook mechanism that latches.

I'd say take the door card off, it will give you better access to the locking mechanism too.
