  • Mounting rb25 to hoist

Alright, so im getting ready to pull my old rb25 and swap in a new one. I have everything disconnected and am not really sure where to put the chains to hoist the engine/transmission out. Has anyone got some advice for me? would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Also with the engine mounts, if i just remove the top bolt and the bottom bolt.. will it be free?

For the couple of RB's I've pulled I use a levelling bar (with a shop crane) and loop chains around the front motor mounts connected to the front of the levelling bar and then a chain from the back of the levelling bar around the belly of the gearbox.

I unbolt the front motor mounts from the bottom of the subframe (1 nut either side) then unbolt the rear motormount from the chassis and gearbox (more clearance to fit through the tunnel)

    a few tricks:
    - take the shifter assembly out of the gearbox (increases clearance between the gearbox and the tunnel)
    - don't forget to disconnect your speedo cable and gearbox sensor harness, they're easily missed.
    - don't try to take the motor out with the dump pipe connected.. it's not worth it lol
    - if you expect to be taking the motor out frequently consider modifying the front rad support to be removable (drill out the welds and replace with nuts / bolts) makes it much much easier to get the motor out
