  • advice for poncam purcahse please!

Im looking to buy a drop in tomei kit. i dont want anything too crazy, in fact minimal lift would be excellent, i just want something to open up the mid range a little.

    i was thinking 260 degree.

What i dont know though as im new to upgraded cams is if i should get type A 260in and 260ex

or if i should get type B 260in and 252ex.

    OR there's type R which is 250in and 250ex

Im also upgrading my injectors at the same time to ID725's

For the record im running twin gt2860r -5's, 660 denso's, 280pump, big fmic, stock ignition, stock maf's and a nistune @ 1.2bar. Putting down 400 rwhp (josh's old car)

plans are to upgrade the cams, injectors / fuel components and ignition.
i would like to turn the boost down slightly and still achieve my 400+ rwhp but not positive about turning down the boost yet.

Im looking at doing this work within the next 2 weeks so any and all feedback is much appreciated.

    Thanks boys!

For 2860 I'd choose the Type b cams, they are designed to work with mid to larger sized turbos such as you have.
They are drop in with no work needed.
We are a Tomei dealer and can help you get a set if needed.

Okay well count me in as #1. I want the most aggressive poncams suggested without doing valves/springs. Doing an rb26/30 build and I have a haltech e11v2 ecu so can program everything.

                              There is also these guys:

The Tomeis are fine and all but you will most definately be leaving power on the table if you go with them. These guys are state of the art and have been working with RIPS to really squeeze out the power at lower boost levels. You will make at least 50 more hp at the same boost level than the Type A (or B, whatever the 260, 260 I-E combo is) with these cams, they will sound a whole lot better too.

The Tomei, HKS and Trust grinds have been around forever and are really showing their age over the stuff that is avail. today. I have the equivalent HKS grind to the Tomei 260, 260s and they are VERY mild, I figure they are costing me about 100hp and making me push at least .2 bar more than I need to to make 700hp. With these Kelfords I should be able to bring in the boost 500rpm quicker and pump up the mid-range by at least 50 to 75lbft, that's power you really feel. The gains will be even more dramatic in a mild application with smaller turbo (s).

                              Jon.
