  • paint scratch !!!

hey guys..heres a story. i bought my r33 not too long ago..went to get emissions done to get my sticker..while parked in parking lot, i went inside the shop to ask if they can do my car and how much blah blah blah..came back out to drive it in the shop, looked aabove my driver side rear quarter panel and voila!! some nice guy/gal decided to key my car waist level...yeah i got pissed since i only had the car for one day..anyways...i thought i can forget about it..but i cant...i want it removed if possible..so my question is..anyone know how????

i tried scratch doctor..dont work, i think scratch is too deep....and its about 10-12 inches long..hehehehehehehehe..lol ignore that.

tips?inputs?brand suggestions?help? just dont say repaint the whole car....i thought about buying the pen-like paint fixer, but i dont think it will match the color good since my car is diferent shades of red and burgundy through out the car...i wish i caught the nice guy that did it so i can stab him with a paint brush and use his blood to cover the nice racing line he made that added no horsepower

      ^ Agreed.
Try looking and posting on sum detailing forums. My favorite is the Mequiars forum.

from what I understand it's a pretty straight forward fix. Repair companies use a thicker paint in the affected area which dries and is thicker or higher than the original paint. Once dry they wet sand and buff leaving the damage virtually invisible.
Good luck and people suck. A dog won't intentionally scratch a car!

Remember that your car is over 15 years old, regardless of how the affected surface is blended, it will never perfectly match the rest of the car's old paint. Once the damage sinks deeper than the paint to the metal, surface filler is needed.

My suggestion to you is to bring it to a body shop. A good body shop will take care of this properly. May cost a pretty penny but this isn't worth claiming through insurance. Feel free to send me a PM with your number since you're local. I'll point you in the right direction for a body shop.

Haha it's covered under comp. what are they gunna say? That you keyed your own car. A friends car got keyed big time awhile ago, they questioned him about it but once they saw the car and realized the paint was in good condition they couldn't prove he did it. That is why you pay for comp. covers vandalism fire and theft.

Btw rates do NOT increase when you are claiming under comp.

You pay alot for insurance you have a right to use it when you need it. Most paint shops can match older paint. They just don't paint with factory paint code.

Sorry to hear about the scratch some people need to get a life and maybe go find something to do besides f around with your car!

Now Cooke from what you are saying I can understand your point. Since I was 16 I have paid well over 30k in insurance. I have used it but only when needed it, I have never abused the system simply because it's dishonest. The crappy part about the entire part is he will have to pay a deductible of 500-1000$ and it's not even worth claiming since it will probably cost less to fix.

Jvizzle just try and find a decent shop to fix it at a reasonable rate. Things happen and people are idiots! It's kinda hard to say avoid it but try and keep an eye out for a-holes like this.
Miss driving sooooo bad! Need to get a car on the road ASAP!

Parents cars got keyed about 2 years ago, didnt think to do anything. They just said f*ck it we'll never catch them and theres no point spending money now because it might happen again. 2 years later (few months ago actually) they decided to finally claim it and said it was vandalism (which it definitely was) and they both had their cars resprayed. Scratches on both cars were on the doors so they were repainted. Don't see why you couldnt if my parents did it 2 years later!

That's why I set deductible for comp at $300, you might pay little more yearly but when the time comes its cheaper that going privately.

Where do you live? If the car was insured it is a legit claim pay deductible and get it fixed. If not or deductible too high try someone like colour works .

i appreciate the inputs fellas..but i dont wanna go through insurance with this..it was soooo hard for me to get insurace on the GTR..i finally got it on a collector insurance and i dont wanna F with that. specially im paying dirt cheap a month...anyways. i thought id try more products that might help..was wondering if anyone repaired thier own scratch b4..but seems like "Fix it Pro" "scratch doctor"all that bs in a bottle wont work and i have to find a place to repair it...or i will have to sand it down with like 2000grit sand paper then polish it...i just feel uncomfortable taking sand paper and rubbing it against my car...i did more research and watch some videos on "how to fix scratches" hopefully i can learn something that might work without having to go to a shop or claim it...found some vids but this one was kind of impressing

the guy doing the vid seems like a nice guy...i dont think he is using camera tricks or wasting peoples time. with shiet that dont work except wreck your car even more. kinda like a helpfull fella..but thats my opinion..watchu guys think? might this work? anyone tried this???
