The steel wheel upgrade is true however R34N1s have been seen above 500whp with much less lag than -5s. I believe Evilgtr is running those and nearing 600whp with water meth. I have -5s and have more lag.

Arms are a great upgrade even if they aren't BB. Had I know about these 3 years ago I wouldn't have bought the "built in mexico" Garrett -5s. They're a tad more than the $2000 GT2860s though.

There's no point in upgrading turbos unless you have other modifications to support them, including a retune. They will jsut make your car slower.

I disagree with this. While the best results from upgrading turbo's will come with more supporting mods, the mods are just a function of supporting more power. If the OP was to upgrade to a set of HKS GTSS or Garrett 2589-9's (Equivalent) the spool time would be very similiar to stock but with alot more power in stock form....assuming he up's the boost to 14psi. There is also the added benefit of having all BB CHRA and better designed steel wheels which can handle more boost safely.

No mods are needed for this size turbo which has been proven time and time again by people running stock injectors, Mafs, Cams, Fuel pump...etc and getting anywhere from 300-400hp. That being said, having the supporting mods is important and will allow even higher power levels but simply upgrading you turbos with the right sized ones does not make your car slower.

I was lucky enough to discover an Essential Nerve tuned ecu in my car last winter and took the serial number and emailed Essential to find out what the tune was .

It was tuned for N1 turbos 1.2 bar with an aftermarket exhaust , IC and a few other minor mods .

The arms kit works great on this setup but i am building another motor to fully take advantage of every ounce of power they can give . I run them at 1 bar atm , they spool slightly slower than the factory ones (to be expected) but pull like crazy all the way to redline over around 3600 rpm .

Cant wait to run them at the full 1.6 bar

I am pretty sure i could pull some fuel in the upper load areas of the map as the O2 readings are in the 10s ( could be because i am running a cat and could have been tuned without a cat). But im replacing this ECU with the Vipec pretty soon as i cant change the Essential ecu without a Nistune mod and software .

I took out my restrictor and got used to the extra power in about a week but if I drive it normal most of the time it still puts a smile on my face since your not looking for crazy power I would say the n1 turbo upgrade. That's what I'm looking at for cheap reliability since you can keep the manis and what not.

if your ever planning on upgrading your internals to run more power then spend the extra cash now on the turbos that will compliment the power you plan on your rebuild. On the flip side don't buy some crazy a** turbos that wont work with what internals you have now either.... kind of a no brainer...but had to put it out there.

And as for a steel wheel upgrade u would reccomend the n1's if your going to spend the money I looked around and I don't know if shops in my area are smoking crack, but I got quotes from about 12-1700!! Just for a rebuild. Of both turbos. I don't know about you but that would pay for a shiny new twin-scroll 6 boost manifold and be the start to a much better setup imo
