  • One coilover is 17mm higher than the other..help! :)

I have Apexi N1 coilover. like thse:

On the front, they are perfect. On the rear.. From rims to fender, I have 89.30mm and 73.45mm on the other side.

What I did is: Took the lower portion of the thread ( you can see there's 2 portions of thread) and the one who was 89.3mm got lowered to the MAX.

The passenger side at 73.4mm has been highered to the maximum. When you sit under the car, you can clearly see that the driver side has only 5mm of thread and the passenger has propably 25mm of thread. Still there's a 17mm difference when the car sit on the ground.

So what can it be !?!? I have to play with spring ? unloose the spring (i.e: decompress the spring?)

I could deal with the fact that the driver might be slighly higher considering the fact that I weight 200lbs and once sit in the car, it might lower the car by 5mm ( for exemple purpose!) but 17mm is way too huge of a difference. the car drive like sh*t and I want it aligned but I can't till I fix this problem.

    Please help!

I have the same issue. When I pulled my car out this year the front drivers side wheel rubs a bit when I crank the wheel. It didn't do this the past two years. Wear and tear?
They were set to the stiffest setting and have been this way ever since.

With age springs tend to sag on the side where driver is (where the most weight has been when car is used).

CobrAA, put that suspension next to stock springs, shocks and set at same ride height with lower spring seat (fit spring compressors, remove tophat, adjust lower spring seat height, put it back together), adjust height of shock, then refit to car. Then see how car sits and measure from middle of wheel to top of wheel arch. Then if correct, remove and set to desired ride height. Should only need to adjust bottom of shock to set ride height with those type of shocks.

thanks Skym but I do not have my older teins for comparaison anymore.

I know I shouldn't play with the spring height, but maybe a picture would tell more but between the two there is easily a 20 ( if not more)mm difference on the height adjustment. BUT... when I put the car back on the ground, one is 17mm higher.. so I'm wondering if this lower adjustment really do something to the damn coilover or maybe my spring setup is so messed up that the height doesnt change.

So I drove the car today expecting the spring to settle and get back in position, if I can say.

I then asked my father which is 30lbs ligther than me to sit in the driver seat and found out that my car is now ''only'' 10mm different.

both front and rear read about 84mm and the rear passenger read 74mm. I really don't know what to do else than play with the top-end ( spring) but then I might just affect the damper/pre-load of the car.

I will bring the car to the alignement monday and I will ask the guy if he has a clue what might be the problem once the car is lifted.
