  • Power steering....?

Having issues with power steering at the moment.

Basically it'll work while engine is cold, and a few seconds after I turn my car on (If engine is warm)

If it's in one of these conditions it'll work for a few minutes/seconds

When it's warm, it does not work. AT ALL, if I turn alot, hicas turns on (Assuming hicas is working properly and detecting steering difficulty)

    Does anyone have any recommendations?
I looked at the oem belt and seen hard wear, so I replaced it with a proper brand new belt. Still having issues

    Any recommendations?

Skym recommended checking hicas as it may be going into limp mode. But It doesn't go into hicas mode unless I turn (If I go straight w/ minimal turning hicas doesn't turn on)

when did you last change the fluid? Check sensor on steering rack.

if its temperature dependent i would say its more likely an electrical fault than a mechanical problem.

What sensor am I checking exactly?

Also electrical fault how so? I'm not sure of which electrical parts are used by the pwer steering.

I tried the HICAS diagnostic mode, came back w/ no error codes. It's not the HICAS.

Check your power steering fluid. It's the reservoir next to the air filters. If your hicas light goes on and off, it might be because your fluid is low. Twist off the lid for the reservoir and there's a dipstick in there for you to check. .

Does it need to be 100% full? It's about 80% full (Guesstimating)

The hicas light doesn't go on/off. It's either on or off. (It is usually off unless I corner alot w/ no ps)

Can old fluid cause an issue like this? (Say, it'll heat up and the fluid is to thin to work properly?)

If so, what type of fluid? (Or is it universal oil? I don't know) can I replace it with?

              Thanks for the responses

                Recommendation:
                1. Jack car up and inspect hardlines on crossmember and other PS lines for kinks or cracks
                2. Install lockout bar or S13 subframe
                3. Loop ps in the front
                4. Pull hicas light bulb from cluster
                5. Party like skylines aren't a money pit

Lol, sadly I don't have money for a lockout at this time.

I will however jack it up and check for what you recommended.

                  Thanks

I would definitely change your fluid COMPLETELY before sending me PayPal for the pump. Do a dump, a full flush and then a re-fill. I can't believe I'm telling somebody to not send me money, but seriously try that first

Hey, I may end up buying it even if it works. Extra parts are awesome, thanks for your honesty sir.

I haven't found out which type of PS fluid I used, does anyone know?

                        Thanks
