I have a question about how to get my lower timing cover off my RB20. Seems like its hitting my waterpump and I cant seem to pull it up and out. All three bolts are out, do I have to take off the crank pulley to remove it?
Regards,
Ken.

How'd you guys break the bolt? It you use a 2x4 to keep the pulley from spinning or did you have a pulley holder that threads into the two holes to hold it? Or did you guys use a breaker bar and crank the engine over to break it?

Ken.

You can do it like that or you can put the car in 5th gear and put stops on the tires. Then use a breaker bar to crack it.
Such a stupid design to put the lower cover behind that. Took me forever to figure it out too.
Heart rate 160, I'm goin 260, RB26 run me past you in a jiffy
I pulled the rad to make my life easier, that way you can fit an impact in there. otherwise put the car in gear, block the wheels and break it free by hand. Its a bit hard on the gears but not much other choice.
I'm going to be doing this in the next 2 months... so explain the running the engine thing and on how to get the bolt off.... I'm confused lol

Basically you put a socket and breaker bar on the crank bolt, block the end of the breaker against something solid, ( I use a 2x4 wedged against the rad support) and "BUMP" the motor. A bump is a quick twist of the key, just enough to get the motor to cough so to speak. 1 second max is usually all it takes.

Now its comes off like all other bolts right... its not one of those you have to turn it t
He opposite way you would normally to get it off.... so the normal righty tighty lefty loosy applies.
Impact gun owned it, youre gonna need a puller to get the pulley off aswell. Whats the hard black bead on the back on the timining covers and coil cover? Is it just silicon?

its a bit harder than silcone. Its just the seal to keep dirt and moisture off the belt. I don't recommend removing it.
