  • Redoing undercoating on car.

I'm looking at redoing the undercoating on my GTR but i'm looking to use POR15 as a base coat right over the metal.

If anybody got experience in stripping the old stuff off or if anyone who has redone their undercoat could provide any advice, would be appreciated. My goal is to basically bring the floor back to new, i'm thinking i'd have to remove the exhaust and some rear suspension components.

Also if anyone knows of a shop arround montreal that could help me out, thanks.

its a terrible job to say the least. I went out and picked up a multitool with a scraper attachment which speeds up taking the main chunks off but you still need to go over it with a wire wheel. I have spent probably close to 30hours straight work taking the stuff off and cleaning. i'm just ready to paint and opted to spray hardened paint instead of por-15, although my vehicle will see little road use and harsh weather.

really, there is no point spending all the time you'll spend removing and prepping the underside for paint when your just going to por-15 it black. you might as well take it to a shop and get it steamed, pressure washed and reundercoated and it will look the exact same.

I opted for POR15 because its the best stuff for keeping moisture out and it has to be applied directly over the metal. I really wanna do it right because I plan to keep the car for a long time.

Also, did you remove your exhaust, transmission, driveshaft, diff to coat your car or you left them on?

To do It properly your going to have to take everything out, but at the very least, tranny drive shaft, rear subframe and front suspension. I have absolutely everything taken out as I'm doing a full rebuild. But the more you start taking out the more you'll notice small surface rust has gone through the undercoating or even Sealing primer. I por-15 my wheel wells, will be applying undercoating as well and probably will be applying a surface grease like waxoil to make sure moisture stays away. Also regular washing is key to keeping a nice underbody. And I mean getting right under the car (hoist if possible) and pressure washing the underside
