hey everyone I'm hoping you can help me I'm still new to the skyline well turbocharged vehicle in general I have a 1990 Skyline GTR 2.6 what an aftermarket HKs EV 4 electronic boost control no matter what I set the maximum pressure at 1.05 bar it only Beeps when it hits at level and continues to climb is this normal ? Thankyou for the help

Check filters to boost control solenoid (change if necessary), especially MAP sensor filter. The MAP sensor + contoller settings should stop boost spiking.
The boost level when turbo fails depends on how man km they have done (how out of balance turbo is, as could fail at 12psi or 14psi, etc), how they were serviced, oiltemps (high oiltemps = coking / blocking oilways to bearings).RESPONSE MONSTER

It peaks at at a set boost level of 1.05 then spikes at about 1.12 when I shift and quickly drops to about 1.05 and continues down to around .96 at high RPM and say 3rd or 4th gear.

Spiking can be due to diaphram making internal wastegate actuator lazzy to open wastegate on back of turbo (turbo's x2 on GTR). It was described as like pushing a balloon (balloon = diaphram) against a bin and balloon will collapse (boost is spiking) before bin moves (wastegate opens which stabilises boost level). In some cases it can be caused by the A/R of exhaust housing is too small with higher boost levels (can happen with hybrid turbo's) or wastegate hole wasn't bored out when converted to hybrid turbo and has a bigger wastegate flap (covers wastegate hole on back of turbo) to match. Some fit external wastegates which can eliminate this boost spike.
Also you are meant to replace those filters for boost control solenoid every 5000km as part of routine maintenance.RESPONSE MONSTER

In some cases (higher boost levels) it's turbo's running out of puff.

I've checked the waste gate actuators in the car and they open free and smooth but I don't recall the pressure. I'll add all of that to my winter "to do" list... which is already getting pretty long and by long I mean expensive
I'll have to maybe clean out the solonoid with some contact cleaner. I bought it used and the filter was UNused.Last edited by bobbo; 09-28-2012, 09:58 AM.

when i had a evc iv i didnt even run the filters... had no issues.
first step try resetting the unit itsself to remove any settings previous owner had in there any other wierd stuff. forget how to but i found instructions on the internet via google.
it involved holding one of the front buttons while flipping the switch on the back of the unit in a sequence.\
then once its reset, dial in the boost levels you want.

Ask sponsors (Feast Auto Export or RightDrive) for filters -
Filter part numbers are here (top 2 part numbers, smaller diameter filter is map sensor, bigger diameter filter is solenoid filters and need 2x of them) -
