  • What timing are you running on your cam gear?

I just had my car tuned yesterday for the fifth time (lol!),

For the first time we played with the cam gear. I did 2 nick on the intake and 1 nick on the exhaust ( 1 nick=2 degrees on the tomei gear). but I can't remember if it was retarted or advanced. I know one was retarded, the other was advanced.

What is your setup? Just wondering if I could go like 6-8 degrees and still gain something or it comes to one point where theres nothing more to gain.

Generally with stock cams the best compromise is 4 adv. on the intake 2 ret. for the exhaust. Good mid range and a little more top end.

4 crank degrees retard on the intake and 2 degrees retard on the exhaust. tomei 280/10.8 piston to valve clearance of ~90 thou intake and 130 thou exhaust. +1 valves.

Wow, this seem like an unusual configuration. Any dyno sheets for this? I wouldn't expect anyone would retard 280's unless they are reving 12000 rpm.

          no dynos at the moment

but, I probably shouldn't advance the intake from where it sits as I only have 90 thou piston to valve clearance. haven't verified where the actual centerline is yet. might be close to 110*, which is where its supposed to be. there's probably still quite a bit of overlap.
