It's really important to have fresh oil when your car goes into storage... Not as much coming out.. Personally, I throw cheap oil in for storage and change back to normal when it comes out. Save some $$ that way

In theory if you get enough moisture in there from warm/cold weather cycles you could dilute the oil enough to damage internals once the car is running again... but I don't think a season will be nearly long enough for that to happen, as long as the oil was new going into storage.

TLDR: play it safe, change it.

I guess if I was a dealership that supplies warranty, I'd want people to change oil often. If I was a $25/hr mechanic I'd wanna do lots of oil chances too I guess.

I used inline oil filters for my turbos and oil analyzing is a good thing if you dont know how your oil is. I guess that frequent oil changes are good for small capacities like 5L or less. My $2-300 oil changes are too expensive STI do it every few months (good oil)
+1 to change withcrappy oil before winter. Start it ever now and again to keep seals dry or at least rotate 60 degrees sometimes
Maybe do plugs and compression test everytime too, to know what's going on. Air filters too!

Blue sky thinking: drain the oil and store it in a immaculately clean container and put oil back in engine when needed?

Blue sky thinking 2: Amosil extended drain signature oil: 1 year interval / 40,000 km
