  • Vipec autotune

i am a total newbie. i bought the vipec to get into tuning and a few complication arose with my car while on the dyno, not once but twice and now two tuners in alberta owe me dyno time. i have a rb25det NEO from a r34 skyline gtt. it has a gt35r and was tuned with stock injectors and made 297 hp. i put in 840cc injectors now and am wondering if i can autotune it to make it at least driveable to get an alignment done. please feel free to flame if you want I am good natured and am posting to learn, i just need help so i can get an alignment and get it dyno re tuned when i can get time off work. please let me know if there is a autotune guide or if anyone can guide me through the autotune process.
    thanks,
    Garret

Auto tune is using a wideband o2 sensor (on some setups it's plugged into laptop) to get it within a certain % range (I think can select it to be within 2%) of being correct (correct it properly on dyno). You still need to put the correct A/F ratio's into the cells on autotune map (can copy previous fuel map before changing injectors, but that's using stock injectors and might be incorrect, best to consult tuner about which fuel map info you can use).

It's fairly easy to autotune, connect wideband to laptop, load autotune map with A/F ratio's you want, turn autotune map check box on in software and drive car (autotune does the rest). Turn check box off when finished. There's other checkboxes, etc to change VE (Volumetric Efficiency) maps, etc (best to consult a tuner).

But I would do it properly on a dyno, as can see the changes in torque, hp. Also usually have to change ignition timing to suit as well which requires a dyno to see the changes in torque, hp when adding or removing ignition timing (shape of the curve).

Cam at lightspeed should be able to get that a sharp base tune in 3 hours or so. Who was your tuners and do they know the vipec? Who sold it to you?

Lightspeed has a YouTube video somewhere that shows auto tune

Sadly I don think the vipec uses the older Nissan idle controllers so idle has to be done via timing if I recall right?

skym- the wideband is hooked up to it already and the afr target is 13.1 would that be considered safe to you? do i still need to load a map or would the vipec adjust to those afr ratios? or does it need to be pre mapped for every single cell ? and i will tune it properly on dyno i just need to get it up to the shop to the alignment rack. thanks

nismoS-tune- cam sold me the vipec and cam owes me a tune still from three years ago.I couldnt get booked in with cam so i took my car back to autodream and then encountered more problems and now they also owe me a tune. i will be contacting them both shortly. I watched the video of the autotune but it is very vague for my little knowledge of tuning. and i have no idea about the idle control sorry.

        thanks for the replies guys

If you resized the injectors properly it should be close to perfect to drive on (off boost to be safe), as when resize injectors it should correct fuel map figures for the size of injectors, correct startup, warmup tables, etc (some tuning software does change the startup, warmup tables, etc, best to check that it does this by playing with the original file, which is the file that's before changing injectors in tuning software). Could select the whole fuelmap and just press - key to make it a tad richer to be safe. But best to consult (ring) a tuner to confirm.

If you have little to know experience with tuning, why put your car on the line to try and learn the hard way? Injectors can be changed in 20 mins so if your old ones are still useable, put them back in, drive down, swap em there and tune.

As for tuning for a "3 year wait" I've never waited more than 2 months for a tune or work to get done at LS.
