  • Rattling noise from engine

Please help me diagnose this rattling noise coming from the front of the engine. It is has been broken in around 400 km and only recently started making this noise. While driving, the pitch of the rattling doesn't really change with RPM and is only noticeable around 3-4k rpm and is loudest at 3.5k.

When you rebuilt engine did you do the whole timing belt service, idler, spring? What about the clutch on the fan? Easy to remove and run engine a short time to rule it out. Hard to tell location of rattling by video. Hope someone on here has heard this specific sound and can help you out further.

Could be water pump (makes a knocking sound when on the way out), CAS bearings x2 (both can be checked via putting a mechanics stethoscope on each part and listening for the sound). If the fan clutch is stuffed it should lock, spin fan faster than normal. But if didn't replace the mounting washers, it might cause a water pump knocking problem.
