  • Battery Voltage Fluctuating Then Overcharges

So this problem arose from out of nowhere while I was driving home. First my volt gauge was fluctuating from 12 to 14V and all my lights would pulsate. The next day it did the same thing but the volt gauge pinged to 18V and the ABS light came on, while my headlights and stereo shut off. Today I started the car and it pinged right to 18V. I shutdown and could hear the acid in the battery bubbling.

What is causing this?! Bad ground? Alternator failure?

    Voltage regulator on the alternator.

Time for a new or rebuilt alternator

Bah! Thanks guys. I installed a refurbished alternator from AutoDream about a year and a half ago. I was hoping I wouldn't have to do the alternator again, it's such a PITA.
