  • Rebuilding a rear LSD ?

Hello guys, I'm interesting in buying the Nismo clutch pack to rebuild my rear lsd on my gtr. However, It appears to be hard to find a local transmission shop to do the job..

My question is it an easy task to do ? Worst case, I would ship it somewhere in canada lol..

LSD kit is about 200$. thats not bad at all. Mainly looking at only swapping the disc and retighing everything back in place.

Order a shim pack, new seals and it's up to you but I'd replace the carrier and pinion bearings too.
I watched it being done and in theory you could do it yourself if you have the tools but if you eff it up...
I can't believe you can't find someone that can rebuild a diff in your area.
Any proper, experienced technician will be able to handle it.
If you know anyone who races they'll know someone that can do the job.
Expect to spend a little over $1g by the time your back on the road.

I was led to believe the Gtr was a mechanical lsd without shims, vs the gtst/gts4 viscous diffs which can be reshimmed

The shims (maybe spacers would be a better term) are required to adjust the lash between the ring gear and pinion. The new clutch pack MAY change the spacing. I got very lucky on mine and didn't require them.

Alex, if all else fails, assuming you come to halifax to do some more work we could have it done while you're here by the same guy that did mine.

Shouldn't be very hard. Keep track of the shims once you pull the LSD unit. Once you install new plates you can also shim them tighter for a greater break-away torque. Just note, the tighter you go, the faster the packs will wear out. A good number is around 45-60lbs is what I have been told. Re-install the LSD and check to see if backlash is within factory specs.

This was super helpful when shimming my VLSD. Hopefully it helps you out as well.
