  • Getting a key cut

    Hey guys,

Tryin to get another key cut for my 96 gtst, the Nissan dealer is trying to find a code but still can't find anything. Anybody done this before? I don't have a locksmith where I live so that's not an option.

    Any help would be great!

    Cheers!

    Getting a key cut

Looks like your only option Terry. Nissan doesn't even recognize the vin ...I'll be by right drive sometime this week or next I can find out what they say....I'm just gonna order a key off eBay and get one of the locksmiths to cut... Unless you get one cut In japan and shipped to you.

99_si, the part number is key00_00185 or something like that. Take that to your nissan dealer, its a special item, takes 2-3 days to come in, cost 43.73 after tax, then can bring in your key or key code to get cut(i believe, haven't got that far yet).
both the nissan dealers near me will order anything as long as i have a part number, but were absolutely useless when i asked for the part by name.

I'll ask here since it's related. I have a key that works on only one door, it used to kinda work on the other, but doesn't anymore and in the ignition. When people say the key code off the key, where is that/what is that? Is there any way to get new keys based off the VIN or anything like that? I'd like to get at least two keys that work in everything.

It's an engraved 4 digit code. Came with my original key and as the others mentioned, you would need this for the nissan dealership to set the key cutter.

code is either stamped on the passenger or drivers door lock cylinder. (cant remmeber which side)

Drivers side. It's most easily seen if you remove the tumbler but a small mirroe and torch can be used if you know exactly where to look.
