Wow, I go away for a week on vacation and this is the reading I have to catch up on?

Nice thread and I have read all of it.

I think all of the issues have been discussed ad nauseum, and I commend GT for taking the time to field our questions but also for his sense of fairness. Yes, its his job to answer questions, but he doesn't have to feel the need to register on an online forum on his own weekend time. I commend you on that.

I do think this is an issue that will affect the entire country as BC is the entry port for most of our cars. As a dentist I can certainly understand the concept of how the entry point affects the entire health of the body.

Aside from some short quips in the beginning (regarding PS2's) I commend everyone for keeping this thread mature and on topic. GTRCers are the class of the field imho. Keep it civil and you earn the respect of those who you'd wish to persuade. Get into arguments and you get closed doors and ears.

I think one of the very first posts regarding us working with them and not arguing is the best plan of attack. Responsible driving and organization is key. I will see what I can do on my end in that respect.

We can argue all day with our own interpretations on the wording of the legalities but the bottom line is that these people have been charged with the job of keeping these cars compliant and we have no real choice but to work with them to keep our cars legal in their eyes and avoid the 25 year expansion. I don't think there are much more sinister conspiracies. As soon as they see us working hard to comply, it will do much to make us look responsible and less like pariahs.

    Respectively submitted,
    JZ

Simply put, I want to know a date when and if they plan to close the ports to imports.

I might want to sell an import and bring another one in, but I definitely don't want to sell it and then be stuck with no time to bring another one in...

...I woulld also keep it if it is a certainty that imports are closing.

That's what I am most afraid of too. If the intention is not to have any common ground in between the government and RHD vehicle owners, we can fix all these right now but what's next and where does it end???

The problem is, they really aren't interested in making our cars compliant, everytime we get around one of their obstacles, they will just throw out another one, and a solution like that is just too easy.

I should also mention that most of us have been driving a RHD vehicle for awhile now and while their have been reported a few accidents (EG: Winter accidents, my neighbour backing into my car, someone getting rear ended) the amount of accidents that have happened are about as common as the accidents that occur in a LHD car.

I should also note that we, RHD drivers drive on the passenger side of the car as we do, drive quite accordingly and have to possess some skills to drive them as the people who get into massive accidents driving LHD cars who, shouldn't be on the road at all.

    Just to add,

some interesting piece of info from GTR UK:

"You can go to France without any pbm if you got a UK reg Skyline for holidays, as long as you got:
    - European covers
    - Put the GB stickers on the back (except if you got the GB plate)
    - Put the stickers on the headlights to redirect the beam
    - Got a set of spare bulbs for all your lights (headlights, breaklights, warnings, etc...)
    - Make sure you got your rear fog light fitted if it's one which is added under the bumper & it's working"

lets see.. within 4 years, 0% of all the RHD vehicles in canada have been in an accident (0.31311% to be exact).

80 vehicles out of 25,550 is a pretty good figure to me

hey glenn did you read that link yet? http://www.luxuryimports.ca/faq/joinfight.php

we have a topic going on about that particular article and i have thus disproved its theory saying that these cars are directly responsible for the rise in automobile casualties(deaths & serious injuries)

see for yourself that these cars are not responsible for the rise in casualty rates, but its the stagering growth of our country.....

There are a few newer vehicles that don't have DOT/SAE marked on them. The big difference though is we know they meet all the standards as these vehicles bear a Transport Canada Decal of Compliance.

The markings on the lens represent that they meet a certain standard. A lens without the DOT/SAE marking on it doesn't necessarily mean it doesn't meet that standard. RHD headlamps cannot comply with DOT/SAE requirements by design. They bias the wong way.

A police officer that I work with told me that they are more concerned with how people drive than what you drive. It doesn't matter if you're on the left or right side of the car. Unless you're doing something to get noticed it's all good. They are also more concerned with people talking on the phone while driving than anything. This statement was made after I mentioned the DOT headlight issue.

Oh, and I did one more measurement test of a projector headlight of another GTS and yeah, 1.5 inches to the left = closer to 1.8 feet into 60ft oncoming traffic, which is funny because that really isn't a difference at all. Not enough to throw drivers of oncoming traffic right off....

Next I'll be measuring the light of a GTR.

i want to add in my thoughts...

if they do ban rhd vehicles because they are 'un-safe', they must also ban every vehicle made before 1966, as they have no seatbelts. they also need to ban lift-kits on trucks, talking on cell phones while driving, transporting screaming children in the backseat, etc, etc. as they are just as dangerous for their own reasons.

Newer cars and trucks with their super bright HID headlights are another example. I dont know about everyone else, but i find that these lights are more dangerous than those of the rhd vehicles. I am blinded b these vehicles as they come towards me.

this whole situation is parallel to the alberta government crackig down on motorcycles with loud exhausts. bikers are arguing that every vehicle with a loud exhaust should be targeted, not just motorcycles. so if the goverment passes this legislation, they will still have us petitioning to take the rights away from these other 'un-safe' vehicle owners.

You really want to take that chance thinking that any rule changes will only apply to BC?

All the lenses on my new Acura have E13 on them like my old JDM vehicles do, however, as for the headlights, on some of them they aren't visible until you crack open the hood and you can see it is embossed on the plastic backing shroud.
