I live in Winnipeg, MB. Got pulled over by an inspection officer in my 89 r32 gt-r.. long story short, every single light on the vehicle was 'rejected' for being not DOT, and the seat belts were 'rejected' as well, resulting in a failed inspection. I do have the original headlights, but other than that, i'm not aware of any light that needs to be DOT!! Also, i've never heard of the seatbelts needing replacement. I'm going to phone in tomorrow for some clarification. It seems this cop may not have known his ass from his elbow. Can you guys please hop in for some input.

tail lights do not need to be DOT as the stock ones meet or exceed DOT tail light requirments, at most you should need to change hte bulb...
please join up at www.ivoac.ca we have all the info there about compliance for all makes and models...How many kids with A.D.D. does it take to screw in a light bulb?

I can't find info specific to each make and model. I've been going through piles of the tc.gc websites legal documents, including the 108.1 legislation. I still can't find anything on ivoac.ca specific to rear tail lights etc... Also, is there anything I can use to get them to pass my JIC approved seat belts?

all makes and models require the exact SAME things for compliance, so its pretty easy to figure out what is required
as for tail lights its been covered here and there a million times... daneil stern lighting did an report on JIS tail lights...
seat belts can 'expire' and end up failing due to wearHow many kids with A.D.D. does it take to screw in a light bulb?

It doesn't matter if other provinces don't need dot tail lights , manitoba is manitoba not alberta not bc not ontario so yes you need dot approved tail lights i have said the same thing over and over to tom at mpi and he keeps saying we are manitoba i don't care what they do, no report or documentation is gong to help you pass you need dot approved tail lights. End of story
please stop saying we don't need dot approved tail lights everyone else, its getting frustrating and i know your just trying to help but it's misinformation for manitobans, thanks

It's hard to say. Reading through IVOAC, there isn't much help for your rear tail light issue. That'd be the hardest part. Apparently MB is just as bad as BC used to be for RHD. Pretty lame man. Are you able to take your car to another shop? Perhaps you'll get lucky. There isn't any easy legal option to get those tail light DOT and will cost $$$ plus won't look good at all if you hack something together. Everyone always refer to the "document that proves the rear tail lights are better or exceed DOT" That's great, I totally believe they are better than DOT but without that "document" it's nothing but hot air. Sucks that MB and Canada have to be this way with imports. I wish I could give you more help but all I can say is see if there is another shop that'll look past that or see if anyone has ever changed out the lenses to something else. Fingers crossed for you man.1992 Nissan Skyline GT-R - SOLD
