  • Skyline rear markers

Hey guys so im working on getting my new skyline legal( In BC), from everything I've read and been told, I need rear markers. But in the last couple days I've seen 2 skylines here without them, with bc plates on. Does anyone know how this could be? I really dont want to cut a hole in my car if i dont have to.
    Thanks

You need them or face the RCMP pullng you over and sighting you for another VI and that's money out of your pocket. The 240sx ones look good and they are Nissan

agreed 240 ones are perfect, and really easy to do, just line them up with your clear strip lights and it looks factory

I know you probably already got this done, but for everyone else, here is a video for what I did for to install my DOT Rear marker lights for my R33...I used 1991 Mazda Miata rear markers, and they look good, but not as good as Lexus IS300 ones. And if I were to do it again, I'd probably use the Lexus ones..

For my first skyline I used a stick on red reflector and these (but red, smaller, and no chrome). Had to drill into the rear qp's.

My next skyline I said no way was I cutting holes into the car this time.
So I used the stick on side reflector, and then bought these from Can.tire and stuck them on.

For the front I just used little orange circle reflectors.

I Agree With Raja, its best to drill a hole and then silicone them on.

best way to drill is to run the drill in reverse, yes in reverse. till your thru the paint. in this way you avoid getting cracks in your paint
then with the wiring, i prefer to soder and heat shrink my conections, and the wiring is easy enought.

its best to do it, cause some cops are real aholes when it come to this stuff.

absolutly you should have no reason to drill into your cars guys, imported 3 of my last 4 cars and none of them got sidemarkers, its ugly, pointless.

I was the same way when it came to my car, there was no way in hell I was going to put holes in the quarter panels. But YOU HAVE TO HAVE THEM, unless you know a guy who knows a guy that owes you a favor at inspection time.....which most of us don't have.

This is what I used, they are LED, bright as hell, 180deg viewing and very small. Any trailer supply place should have them. Put them in the bumper, urethane doesn't rust.

For the reflector I just used a standard reflector with double sided tape. In the holes I cut the heads off some stainless screws and epoxied the heads to the reflectors so it looks like they are screwed to the panel. No effing holes in the quarter panels....no way. You can also use the stickers from Princes Auto, they even have DOT #s on them, all good, used them on my other JDMs.

Never an issue with inspections or the DOT, cops don't know squat, CVSE though will call you on stuff if they catch you.

                    Jon.

Funny how this discussion just happened. Guess what, I just got pulled over by the CVSE. What were they looking for? Side markers and DOT headlites. I have never even been looked at by these guys in 3 years. After we chatted for a bit he told me that there is now a crackdown on JDMs and he is under orders to pull over anyone he comes across and check their inspection stickers and paperwork, even wanted to check my VIN to confirm that it matched my paperwork even though I did that already when I insured the car in July.

The reason why he is mandated to give JDMs the once over? A pile of cars that have been through inspection and don't even remotely comply, not even to a casual visual at a stop light......

Thanks a bunch, I'm clean but lots of people aren't. Expect harassment.

^^ JDMs that don't pass inspection, flushers anyone?

How did you deal with the cop for the non-DOT headlights?

I changed the subject, and asked him a bunch of other questions to distract him after he made the comment about the headlights being another thing he is checking, it worked.....lol. I also proudly display my inspection sticker on my windshield, that helped a lot.

CVSE is our version of a DOT inspector that roams the streets and hiways, they mostly look for trailers and transport trucks but will on occation pull over an obvious POS passenger car/truck for a road side inspection....and now specifically......JDMs.

ive got markers on mine, on the rear. I havent been bugged by the CVSE or the cops here yet. Mind you ive never had issues around here with any of my cars. I dont daily drive my car either though so that could be it. I would be worried if i got pulled over though! Jon your reflectors look clean on your car.
