  • question about alberta safety/DOT compliance for skylines

i keep hearing stories from places like manitoba and ontario that people with skylines are having a hard time getting registration because most if not all the lights are not DOT stamped, and there is no high mount brake light. here in alberta, i see hundreds of skylines being driven around with all the factory lights and no high mounts, fully insured and registered.

my question is, is the safety regulations less strict in alberta than places such as manitoba and ontario? or am i seeing imports everywhere that just had their original equipment switched back after inspection? also, has anyone with an r32 or 33 been pulled over by traffic inspectors and gotten penalties for non DOT equipment?

ive searched everywhere for information for alberta, but to no avail. can anyone shed some light here?

For the headlights, a lot of people swap in Accord headlights to pass inspection and then go back to oem after passing safety. Some headlights (on R33's at least) are "E" stamped, meaning Euro spec or Euro approved, which means they are acceptable for North America (DOT equivalent, this is also open to interpretation depending on where you go) - that's how mine passed. R33's have a hi mount brake light so not sure how the 32 guys are doing it - maybe a Crappy Tire one to pass inspection and pull it out?
