  • Has anyone sold to someone in the states? What am i looking at here?

Well i panned through a few threads and didnt really have my question answered. Unfortunately no gtr forums from the US are loading for me. Not to mention you fellas deal with importing much more than we do.

I have heard that after a US patron purchases a car from someone in canada that the vehicle usually sits at border patrol for a while. Is this true?

Has anyone stayed in touch with someone from the US after they sold their car off?

    Thank you,
    Cullen

As far as I've heard, getting a car into the US can be a huge hassle, as they aren't legal for import until they're 25. I haven't had any experience with it, so I'll let someone else that knows better answer, but from what I've heard, it's illegal to sell to most US states at the moment? There will at least be a LOT of paperwork involved

thanks for the input snake. i appreciate what knowledge you do have of "said" situation.

emissions wont be an issue where im at, wisconsin has only tests obd2 cars. mainly its just fee's and time to get it in my posession. i heard of registering it as a "track only" vehicle... i will have to check into that.

i know that here you have to prove that it will be a track car and such things like your team info or something going as a track car you wont be able to drive it on the streets

Yeah. I think you'd have to show how it's going to be used. I know they're illegal to register as street cars down there for the time being. For a track car, you'd probably have to do what foxracing said and show team information, experience, etc.

I would sell my car to an american if they showed up with the money i was asking for. As soon as they have the car, it's out of my hands, they can try to drive it back, ship it back, whatever. Doesn't involve me.

It's a shame Florida doesn't border Canada, you could drive it back no problem :P

R32s will start to be legal in the US in 2014. Just wait 3 more years.

the car isnt 'illegal' its just not yet eligible for importation, even though they are exempt from federal emission testing.... however yes it is illegal to drive down and sell the car.. what did you say to the border/customs? did you tell them you were down for a day trip? see where this is going?

It's illegal. You can't get on any US skyline forum because SOUSA is on lock down. The best thing to do is find one already in the states that's registered. They are less likely to care about a car already here, than one that just showed up in the system.

I agree with everything said here. If said US buyer comes up here and buys it, gets it back his own way, thats fine by us. Any time we have to drive it down, we're getting into messy waters. The one fella I know that did just that has had a lot of trouble with US customs, a large hassle just because the car couldnt sell fast enough up here. Ive been on the SOUSA boards over the last few weeks and I can see the problems that people have to go through with a non motorex vin. I would really like to know how people do get those cars landed and registered...just waiting for someone to msg me about it lol.

I've heard of a lot of ways. Tell customs you're going shopping in America, make the sale, then fly or bus back. I've also heard of separating the powertrain from chassis and shipping them over at different times. The last way I've heard of is to find a road with no customs station and just drive right across. Any of those ways are illegal. I wanted to import an R32 when I first joined here, and I think one of my first posts was probably about how to do it. I ended up waiting it out until I found my MotoRex GTR. I am glad I did.

Yeah all of those ways I've known. Thats how the fella I know did it. Took the bus back and was called bi weekly afterwards asking about the car from Customs

                            How are they plated/insured?

^ He will probably not be able to enter the US for a while too if he lied to Customs and sold the car illegaly.
